I have them in a tank with moonlight gouramis. I just read something about algae eaters potentially eating the slime off of fish, and that's got me worried. Should I return the algae eaters to the shop and get cory cats instead? The short time that I've had the GAEs, they've done a great job at housekeeping, but the gouramis are what I care about most.

You shouldn't worry too much - just keep everyone well fed.

unfortunately, i saw today as i was watching my tank, one of the GAEs chase my gouramis. it wasn't able to attach, but i'm afraid it might be stressing out my gouramis. their forward ventral fins are erect when something like that happens (kind of like bettas puffing up). i'm probably going to replace them with cory cats later on today. i doubt cats will have half of the appetite as these GAEs, but they'll definitely be more peaceful.
