I am posting this because all I see in this forum are good things about Shark Aquarium when all I've heard outside this forum are bad things. Years ago i was thinking about picking up a fish from there and I asked a few friends that were in the hobby longer then I was if Shark Aquarium was a good place to go. They all said no, ever single one of them. And this wasn't one group of people, these are several people who asked at different times who didnt know each other. But I use to go there because the selection was amazing and there price were very good. So I did not listen to my friends and I picked up the fish. This fish then got very sick a couple days later and killed off half my tank before dieing. I heard nothing but a bunch of "i told you so". I never went back again. after that i read on forums the same things my friends told me. That there fish are always in poor condition and there staff aren't helpful. But now I just join this site and everyone says great things???????? It's hard to believe that only me and the ppl i know had bad experiences but maybe its time to look at them again. But didn't they move AGAIN. are they futher up 22 now? Is there anyone else here with a bad experince? For all I know SA just had a bad year. What do you guys think?

You didn't quarantine a new fish?

What kind of disease? or symptoms...

Did you go back to the lfs to ask if they would replace the fish you bought or at least see if they had other dead fish then? Two days is quick for not having symptoms when you got it (not that it can't happen).

The lfs should have replaced the fish you bought but the others dying were your fault for not quarantining the new fish first.

Sorry for your loss.

Lfs' can't stay in business if this is a common practice, check with the BBB for complaints too.

No I did not quarantine, but have ever since. That was deff my fault (much wiser now) And no I did not ask them to replace it, because I did not really want a new one. And I did not go back to see if the rest were fine - i never went back again. But I did go 3 times before I bought it to make sure it looked ok and was eating. I did ask question to someone there about a couple missing scales and was told that it was not a big deal.

I am not saying it was deff SA's fault. I am just going by my 1 experince and the warnings others gave me before hand. It is possible that those ppl all just had one bad experince and I happen to have the same. I seems like everyone else loves them so maybe its worth giving them another try. It may have been a fluke

Just for the record SA did not say they wouldnt replace the fish, I never asked.

I've bought most of my fish from Shark Aquarium and I've got nothing but good things to say about them. Prices cannot be beat and the selection is incredible. I love not having to deal with the hassles of shipping since I've got a great LFS less than 30 minutes from my house. I've actually never had any of their fish die on me. Most are either still with me or sold off to fellow members.

Just out of curiosity, what did you buy/

My problem with them is that several of their fish are sick in the store, and some of the staff don't seem too knowledgable. However, not everything they actually have in stock seems to be in the store, and the people that actually run SA know what they're doing, totally.
I'm going to guess that the main difference is... when ordering and such, the people check over the fish and choose healthy specimens to ship out. The store people sometimes seem like bored teenagers on a parttime job, and will just sell any fish. I think that's where the discrepancy comes into play.
I personally love the place, but only go there when I'm looking for a little something different.

First off...... They have thousands of fish !!!!! Of course not all of them can be as healthy as we'd like. I am always amazed at how good most of his fish look given the tank sizes and quantities. Thats no easy task. And as far as staff..... You may be right but its also true the majority of people dont listen anyway !!!!!
I love listening to some peoples reasoning for buying a fish they can NEVER house properly. That place is cool, not perfect...... But the best I know of
