it supposed to flood real bad by me tonight. My tanks are in the basement and it will flood down there. i have a small tank for my little guys, but not for my larger fish. they are still small too. any suggestions what i can put them in for now. i'll never be able to get the tanks out of the basement by myself. the largest of my fish is an 8 inch arowana. I'll just use my filters and heaters i have now, but i need some sort of container for the fish. any suggestions please. :help2:

How about big rubbermaid containters. If you have enough dough ...try to find a farm store and get a stock container. if nothing else use buckets i guess. Good luck,I hope everyone makes it

Go to your LFS and see if the can give you one of those styrofoam containers they get their fish in, a big one, that is a great container for your fish. Otherwise, go to your local target, walmart, shopko, or whatever store you have like that around there, and get the largest rubbermaid storage container you can find, preferably with a lid...Then use your heater, and an air pump with a bubble wall in it to keep the water heated and circulating....
Hope this helps Joel!

BE VERY CAREFULL WITH THE HEATERS THEY CAN MELT THROUGH THE PLASTIC. Maybe put them on a glass plate.

Good luck.

Go to (or call around ) your local equipment supply store or possibly a rental place and see about getting a sump pump. They'll know what you mean when you tell them that it's to pump out your basement to keep it dry. Winter isn't even here yet and your place may flood again. Be prepared so you don't have to stress -or worse- your fish. Also it might be a good idea to acquire a generator to run the pump and fish room if your local power goes out. If that happens even tupperware won't save them, unless you have a way to keep their temperatures constant. Believe me, we've lost quite a few fish from lengthy blackouts and finally got a generator. The cost was nothing compared to the price of losing and replacing fish.
Hope this helps and I sincerely wish you all the luck to get through it all.

thanks. my sump is ready to go. got a generator. two shop vacs. and a constant supply of coffee. i've done this before, just never had to worry about my fish. i will not move the fish unless water comes up to the filters under the tank.

oh dear. i hope you've got enough buckets or containers to temporary house your fish. remember to cover the bucket for your arowana as they are good jumpers. lost my baby silver when it jumped out of my uncovered fiber tank.

good luck.

this happened to me last weekend.(my basement flooded)...........all I did was fill my bath tub up with water and put about two cups of bleach in it. After about four hours I drained the water. This made the bath Tub pritty darn steril. I then filled the Bath Tubb almost completely with tap water and then put 8 gallons of my fishtank water into the bath tub. My 14" arowana and five of my bichirs stayed in it for three days and did fine. Theier tank in the basement is only thing that needs cleaning now.

I also hooked up my Air rater and my magnum 350 in the bathroom to keep the water in livable conditions

Double up some garbage bags and throw in a bubbler - should last a while.

Hey thats good to hear! When i was thinking of floods, is it that your whole house floods? how is it that your basement is the only place that floods? wouldnt your lounge and bedrooms etc get flooded too? (basements are indoors right?, just underground?)

water can seep through the walls or even come up through the floor.. and if it comes through your up stairs doors your basement is a pool.
