View Full Version : Is your predator a picky feeder eater?

My 6" barracuda will only eat Platies. I try and feed him shiners and goldfish, but he will not eat them. I even try to not feed for 3 days or so, then put in a goldfish or shiner, but we won't go after it. He is all over the platies.

This sucks because the platies are like $1.40 each, while the goldfish and shiners are like $0.10 each.

Does anyone else have this problem with their predators??

Wow, that's strange. I've only fed guppies to my bichir. He doesn't eat the cories, though, even though they are pretty fat. I don't know what to say, maybe your fish grew up only eating platies?

Im talking feeder platies....not fullo grown "fancy platies." They aver 1/2-3/4" Sometime we get in big ones like black mollies and swordtails. I pick them out to go home with me! hehe

Yeah, I have never seen feeder platies around here. I am pretty sure that when his residence was the fish store that he was just fed goldfish.

So it does not sound like anyone else really has this problem. Hmmmmm..... This Cuda is a pain.

Yes, it is a freshwater barracuda. The scientific name for my particular one is Acestrorhynchus Falcirostris. They are not related to saltwater barracudas. They are called freshwater barracudas because of their resemblance to the saltwater fish.

Don't have any personal experience but I have a customer who swears his oscar will only eat orange comets. Any other color is just killed and left.
