This is my 40 breeder that I have planted. It's in a tough spot to get pics of. I have valisneria, an amazon sword, anubias barteri, and anubias nana in it. There is 240 watts of light on it. The inhabitants right now are a green phantom pleco, a blue panaque, a juruense catfish, and a Geophagus surinamensis.

Very nice looking setup! Is it difficult to maintain?

nope, very easy. The plants I have aren't that tough to take care of. Eventually I think I'll have to cut back the val since it grows like a weed, but that's about it. I have a feeling the geo's might make keeping the plants in the tank a challenge once they get a little bigger as well.

Thanks, I've been working on taking better pics ever since I got my new camera. It's a Sony F828, so I figured I should know how to use it. The large amount of light on the tank makes it a lot easier too.

the pleco and the juruense are looking great. How big is the pleco? it doesn't damage the plants any?

the pleco is still pretty new, but I haven't noticed him really doing any damage to the plants. He may uproot a few vals once in awhile, but they are easy enough to just replant.

very nice! do you have a shot of the whole tank?

Do you know the exact species of vals those are? And do you know what your water chemestry is?

What about lighting, substrate and Co2?

I've been working on my 10g planted tank for a while, and with the tap water here I've had some problems that I think I'm just getting taken care of. Although I think I still need some fairly hardy plants.

That first pic is a shot of the whole tank.

I don't know the exact species, I got them from the member Bawb2u on Water Wolves and he wasn't sure what they were. As for the chemistry of my water, shamefully I have no idea. I haven't tested my pH in a couple years. I think the last time I tested it, it was around 7.2.

I have 3 double strip shoplights from Lowes on the tank that are each 80 watts, so a total of 240 watts. A little bit of overkill on a 40 gallon tank, but the plants like it so I don't mess with it. I don't use CO2 and the substrate is just sand. No fluorite or anything although I may use some in the near future.

Your so lucky, I've had such problems with live plants. I've tried sand and I've noticed the plants like the flourite a lot better (in my case) in your case they looking like they're loving it. I'm pretty sure the plants just don't like my tap water. But yours looks great, nice work :)

is that second pic a Satanoperca? or lilith? or any relation? Looks like it may be at least in the same family.

I was looking at your pictures on Image Event. They're all really awesome. Wish my tanks looked as good!! One quick question... is the picture of the iguana in your Miami Fishing Trip your's? Or was that wild? I've heard of them living in a few places in Florida, but being from Tampa, where it gets colder in the winter, I haven't seen any.

Yea, the Iguana was wild, I almost walked right into him while fishing the bank. I got a couple decent shots, but once I got oo close he bolted right into the water and across to the other side.

The fish in the second pic was sold as a Geophagus surinamensis.

If your val is putting out runners just clip those off and show them to your local fish shop, sometimes they will trade for feeders, worms, etc.
