What temp do you keep your tank at?

75-77 F
are you sure it's ick? lmb are notorius for getting fungus. might want to quarantine it in a smaller tank and treat it with antibiotics first before introduction.

whenever the bass got sick i took him out of the big tank and into a quarentine tank. I guess i was doin this backwards and will try it again, quarentineing the fish first.

add some salt
and give it a suppliment to stengthen its immune system
What kind of supplement do you recommend?

i cant really recommend
but i can suggest :grinyes:
vita-chem, the freshwater formula
If it was my LMB, I would raise the temp to 78'ish or 79'ish, add the recommended dose of salt, and let the immune system of the fish fight it and let it get stronger. If the fish does not make it, then it is not meant to be for the fish to make it.

non sense
if more can be done, then it should be done
I think I used the disclaimer"If it was my LMB". You would do your technique based on your experience, and I would use mine. My experience is, I DO NOT use additives into my tank. I learned that somtimes these additives just messes up the balance of the system. I don't really know what the "chemicals" does in the tank, especially when it is added into the water.

naw vita-chem is no chemical.
and you add it to your food, you can add it to the water but i think its not as effective
I don't buy into those additives that you add into the food, or absorb into the food and then dumped into the water. Doesn't the water just wash that off? So I am not really sure if this is really effective even if it was tested by "Breeders and Hobbyist" for three years. I've havent used any of that stuff other than "old school" care and diligence. But hey, if it works for you, so much the better.

Are you sure 78-79 degrees is the ideal temp for these native fishes. My bass is doing great and my water temp is only at 67 degrees. I think they like colder water IMO.
I'm actually trying to get my temp under 60 because I got some walleyes too.

It is not the ideal tempurature but higher temps. speed up the life cycle of the ich and then it dies in conjunction with the salt so while treating that is what it should be. With tropicals most people go higher but when dealing with a LMB to much higher would not be very good.

what else is in the tank?
i've kept several LMB over the years with brown bullheads. I kept them in the high 70s low 80s. when they got ich or something iw ould lower temp a few degrees and add some Aquarisol to the water. it usually worked for me. give it a shot

A coincident or not???
I know 2 people that have Large mouth bass and Pikes and they have ichs. There wate temp is very high for native fishes, around 80 or so. They've tried the same process by adding chemicals and warming up the water to get rid of it but with no success.
I on the other hand have my water at 67 degrees and my bass has no ich at all. Well I'll let you guys decide because I don't know either.

Hrm... the water in my 5 acre pond is usually in the high 70s or low 80s during the summer... none of hte bream, crappie, bass, catfish or shiners I've caught over 30 years have ever shown signs of an infection...

Yup but I honestly think a pond/lake is totally different in comparasion from a small tank.
