Moonlights (color issue)

I have always wanted moonlights since I am a nocturnal fish lover. heh. I love my catfish. They hide and I have heard great success using LED moonlights to get to see them at night.

I went to Petsmart and got some Marina LED lights. Overpriced and $47 later I have moonlights. I figure on my 55gl I will try this out and if I like it, I will repeat it on my 75gl but do it built into the lights. I have seen that done and like how it turned out for others.

They only had 2 blue lights so I settled for 2 blue and 1 red. I put the blue on the sides and the red in the middle.

Is red okay for them or is it best I go for all blue to really try and get that moonlight for them? I could see if they can get another blue in for me and take the red one back.

Ugh. I dunno, I think all blue would look better...... I also can only connect 3 lights to the hub, would like 4.

hmmmm.... in the middle is where the "feeding zone" is. It is the bare part of the tank and where food is dropped in so maybe having the red in the middle like that would work out great!

Okay I dunno about this. My largest mystery snail has came out of hiding, crawled up to the top and knocked the light off the glass (suction cup) and as it is floating has stuck himself to it and actually is SITTING on top of the small light. He is lit up blue LOL

Maybe he just had to check it out. LOL

Hard to get a good picture when you have to have the shutter open for several seconds and tetra are swimming in circles!

My rainbow shark has been out a lot with the lights My pims are still chicken and so are the plecos. Time will tell. The tetra seem to be pretty active and playing in the light. The clown loaches are up to the top checking it out.

The mystery snail (biggest one) is being a complete butthead. He refuses to leave the light ALONE! You can see him crawling up the side in the front there. I just removed his butt from that blue light over there he has been on several hours. I put him down at the bottom and well he is back on the light. This snail is such a nut he even sits on the heater. He seems to love heat!

It is not near as bright as the picture. It is a very long exposure and no flash so a lot of light came in, PLUS there is a bubble curtain in the entire back of my tank that with the long exposure the bubbles that are lit up moving up the back make it brighter, because as the shutter is open they keep moving up and the camera captures it as "light" not bubbles.

The actual light is soft and not that bright. It is not "easy" to see a fish but you can see them.

For photographers out there I used a lowlight lens. F2.8 to make sure I captured the light from the tank as moonlights are hard to get to show up.
