i do love fish and i hope they need the employee ill post if i do get the job or if i dont but ill kep yall updated
Why do you want to work at an lfs? For the most part your job is to give morons advice, which they will ignore. Next they tell you which fish they want want to own/kill in spite of your advice. Lastly, they on occasion will bring the fish back the next day and blame the store for the fish death, as their water (pH of 4.9) is perfectly CLEAR and there is no way it is their fault.

someone whose smart will always listen to good advise especially if they really care about their fish (like me). Don't let the morons get you down, and you will get the job.

ya it beats flipping burgers, but you will also have to lie to customers as it is about the sale not making sure the fish stays alive...

First, find out how the store does thing, don't try to change things when you first start (sometimes there are hidden reasons for what they do).
Second, do it their way (they're paying you) if it's a moral conflict state your objection/problem and ask if they would rather you leave (you were looking for a job when you got this one :D ).
Third don't steal... If they see your honest and a hard worker you will probably get more benefits than if you stole the stuff.
Fourth, be on time or early and be consistent.
Fifth, work you way up to ordering so you can get the really cool fish in there.
Sixth, ask them if you can put MFK stickers on the big tanks...then beg Neoprodigy for some (send him pix of bare, ugly tanks).
Seventh, start a hospital tank at home for sick or hurt fish that come in and the store might not want ot care for (hint hint)
Is this a local LFS or a chain?
Oh, and don't worry about ewurm, he's just repeating what his LFS says about him :screwy:.

After being at a chain store for over a year as a college job...lets just say less that 10% know what they are doing, or even take advice to heart. No matter how much people are willing to listen and seem to understand, they have no patience and know what they want. Kids will be your worst nightmare, especially when the customer has just set up a tank. The cycling process is non existent. One piece of advice...figure out a clear, simple, way to describe the nitrogen cycle in a tank. After a year, i'm still working on a way to get it to stick to these idiots brains.

Oh and another thing as has already been said....set up a QT/spare tank now! As big as you can. You will constantly come across beat up, sick, injured in general, fish you feel sorry for, or just those specimens that you can not handle possibly going to some moron who thinks it looks cool regardless or their setup.

Keep in mind that though the discount may be nice, you have an important service to do; as the lives of countless numbers of fish may soon be placed in your hands.
you enjoying that job at the lfs then? lol
I would rather stab myself in the head. BTW< guppy breeder, I don't mean to tell you that you shouldn't work there, I just wanted to let you know what to expect in the worst situations. Those situations make me homicidal, but you might enjoy working there. I enjoyed it for 3 months. Sorry to give you the wrong impression, I sometimes say things in a WURM way.

Yes most of the idiots do come to Petsmart, Petco, etc. But we don't get them all. There are enough to go around. I've been in enough stores around here to say with utmost certainty, dumb isn't limited to the chains. Good luck with your job. It will be what you make of it.

So, you are just going to "put in time" at this LFS.
Not going to say anything to the "joe" who walks in and wants a Pacu or an Oscar for his kids 10g because "nobody listens to you anyway".
Collect your check, the 30% discount, and go home.
Might as well get a job at McD's, at least they feed you after the "shift".

wow mister negative... does it really matter? if they hire a student or what ever and the new employee starts telling people not to buy the fish or he wont sell them then that new employee will become a former employee very fast. it seem that it is only seniors that get warnings about that...
also all fish stores that I deal with treat their fish before they sell them so if they sell a sick fish it isnt intensional like you make it seem... :nilly::nilly::nilly:

Sorry, but it's hard to wish someone luck on a job when they clearly state the only reason they want it is for the discount, and "they don't care".
And I did not mean to say they sell sick fish intentionally, only that they all have some sick fish, it's a fact. They may not know it's sick when they sell it.
