Ok, so how long from the time you buy one GIGA as a small fish, until you will need to move it lets say a 300 gallon grow out tank? Into lets say a 5,000.

Check this thread and you'll get your answer! Could take a while to read it all though!

Heehee....that'll save a bit of reading!
From what I can gather, they'll happily grow an inch a month.
Figure out tank requirements from that, and remember, Gigas don't turn round easy.....

Zoodiver will hopefully jump in soon, but these fish should not be kept by anything short of a crazy fish keeper. They require huge tanks, huge amounts of food, and huge amounts of filtration. They grow very fast (more than 1" per month, if I remember correctly). Zoodiver's thread should help some. I believe he recommends nothing less than 1' to start with as they are very fragile fish when small.

I think you are looking at more like 2-4" per month growth at least until they are 3'

been wanting to have one since ever since I saw an almost full grown pair in Singapore more than 10 yrs ago, but I know that at my current financial capability I probably won't be able to house it for more than 2 yrs, even in a "large" home aquaria.
Hopefully one day I can afford to build a tank like JohnPTC's and finally enjoy raising one :)

Until you have a set up for an adult, I wouldn't get one. They will grow faster than you can build.

JohnPTC's Gigas has grown 2" a month for 2 years.
