Im interested in using a kiddie pond indoor as a fish tank.
I want to keep a cuvier bichir and mayber a pair of tinfoil barbs.
Can i keep any other fish, or is this too much

depends on what kind of kiddie pool and the size. They tell you to only fill it to about 80% but when you get it, the line looks a lot lower so i would say 60%. I used a blow up pool that was supposed to fit 450 gallons, but it could only realistically hold 150 or so. Plastic would probably be better, and I would suggest to outfit it with some type of a pond liner, because if your like me, your always scared that its gonna rip at some point. I personally wouldn't use that idea again. I say to just build a plywood frame and outfit it with pond liner like i did. Its just a tad bit more expensive, but sturdier and holds more water. :D

I'd go with the Plywood base and a pond liner, Pond liners are designed to with stand the usual wear & tear un like the kiddie play pool which is more designed for a childs safty.
POND LINER & PLYWOOD BASE !!!
Or if you go to some sort of garden centres they have ready made acrylic ponds which are strong a and definatly will not rip because they are hard !

You could also consider a rubbermaid trough (about 250 max gallons), Extremely durable, drills easy for plumbing filters and such, and is freestanding.
The rubbrmaid 300g costs $199 at Ace Hardwares and is very durable.

they had a 1000gallon pool with filter that was around $100plus
you can keep a redtail catfish or something big in that!

I went to the local farm supply store, and got a 350 gal 6' dia plastic feed bin for $150. With the homade filter the total cost of my pond was around $300. The fish in it costed $200 so I hope they don't turn up their noses to their ghetto pond I made them. LOL. You can do an indoor pond cheap without resorting to the kiddie pool syndrom.

Just beware of leaping tinfoils! :eek: Good luck!
One cure for leaping fish is loose mesh shade cloth draped from a hook above the pond, trough, pool, etc., velcroed to the container, when you are present just roll it up to the hook, when you are not , resecure it, it will save you from finding dried fish on the floor, is easy to rig, and is cheap.

We used kiddie pools for years as a bait storage for cat fishing. We kept bluegill, small carp, bullheads and other varies things for bait. All I can say is for small fish they work. Make sure you put a cover on them tho.:cool-1:
