So I was watching my fish tank and one of my plecos just flipped upside down and was arching its back and freaking out and then it stopped laid there for about 2 minutes and then flipped itself back over and just sat there for a bit and then just went on scavenging. Does anyone know why this happened? The only thing I can think is it choked on something.

perhaps it took in too much air the last time it went to the surface, and it decided the bubble inside it was poorly-placed or something. plecos have a tendency to gulp air every now and then.

How long did you have the pleco BEFORE he busted the weird move and what does his diet consist of?

My pleco did that when he had an itch. Turns out he had a skin infection of some kind.

I have had the pleco for a couple months now. So it was a wierd thing. Since then he seems to be acting normal but I am watching him a lot closer.

Maybe he wanted to just lay out for 2 min. and try to get a tan on his belly.

Maybe your pleco is just a weirdo like some loaches are. It's an uneasy feeling to suddenly see a loach laying on its side all pale & dead looking only to find out that it's common for them to relax in that manner. I can't say that it's common behavior for a pleco to do what yours did though. Raph has a good point. Check your fish all over really close up. He might have the beginnings of some good ol' fashioned ick. If so, it won't be very long from now until it becomes blaringly noticeable, but best to detect it early so you can treat it early.
