I need help guys....I recently purchased a used aquarium with oak trim. Scooterbuck was nice enough to give me an awesome cabinet for it. The cabinet is black, the aquarium is oak trim. Can I paint the trim black? And, what kind of paint should be used?

Have any of you tried this, and how did it hold up?

Thanks, MIKE

I have painted a couple of tank frames. I have used both regular latex house paint and regular spray paint. I just brushed on the latex, it worked o.k. but it will scratch pretty easy. Tape off the top of the tank to avoid getting overspray inside and use spray paint, it will last alot longer.

I always use contact paper to change the trim on tanks. You can get get nice paterns like marble or granite. Gives your tank kind of a customized look.

Thanks for ideas....I am not even entertaining the idea of staining the stand!! I really like the contact paper idea....Can I get this at a DIY type store? The tank is currently empty and in the garage, so if I do paint it, it will be done outside....Thanks again.

OK, I just ran up to the local hardware store and bought a can of the Krylon Fusion....The lady in there said that it works great. I also picked up a roll of that blue tape. I will attack this when I return from Columbus next week....I'll let you all know how it goes.

Just to throw my 2 cents into the equation, but if you paint the trim on say an AGA aquarium it voids the warranty. I unfortunately ran into this experience, but I was able to gently razer blade EVERYTHING off and return the tank.
