"Darin" is about 7 inches long He has the nicest black and white stripes of any tigrinus i have ever seen I got him for 500. It was worth it because he is a true Merodontotous tigrinus He is in my 150 with my 6 inch leichardti arowana "Sydney" and my 6" clown knife "excalibur". One thing I do want to mention is to keep the water temperature up and the oxygen levels up. My temperature is about 87 degrees. I will be building a wet/dry filter to boost my oxygen levels the sump will primarily be to have water crashing down on bio balls and thus higher oxygen levels. I will also have two fluval 404s on this tank for additonal filteration. Also if you keep this fish, watch your heaters as merodontotus tigrinus can rub up against the heaters. One last thing I dont have any pics because I dont want to stress him/ I dont know how to pics

whats the difference with a true Merodontotous tigrinus and a normal one ?
BTW, they recently changed the scientific name to: Brachyplatystoma Tigrinum

 The differance is in the eye placement. I dont think that they should be in the same genus because of the structure. It is true that they are pimelodids but the shouldnt be in the same family as the jurense catfish. I also have another reason for this: like saying merodontotus really fast. BTW howmany other people have M. tigrinus on MFK

tigs are not as easy as you think to keep it wont be a walk in the park i have had 3 die in the past for no reason
the one i have now was a free gift from a freind of mine and had been feeding well in his tank for 3 months so as soon as i put him in my tank he ate the same day but i did have to throw food at him for about 2weeks now as soon as food hits the water he goes mad looking for it

I didnt assume that it would be a walk in the park. I know tigrinus are delecate and sensitive.

That is one beautiful tig, I have wanted one for years, maybe one day I will set up a new tank in my fish house and then try and talk my wife into letting me send £200 + on another cat.
