My RTC has recently swallowed a large rock, its stomach is very extended, yet the fish does not seem ill. I have tried pushign the rock out back the way it came but with no luck :(. I have had this 1 ft+ cat for almost 2 years and i would hate to see him die because he swallowed a rock. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The fish should spit the rock out naturally, just minimize the stress on the fish (i.e. don't try to push the rock out of the fish). RTCs regurgitate quite often when they are overfed, so he should get rid of it on his own. Just don't feed the tank and cross your fingers.

I read on another board of an RTC swallowing a turtle and I think that one came out alright in the end (no pun intended). :)

Hiya drunkenmaster! Welcome to MFK!
I would not stress too much, I haven't kept redtails but bullheads and channel cats do that quite often, they york them back up in a day or two.

Thanks alot for all your input you made me feel alot better lol. I just gotta hope all that prodding him didnt hurt him atall...I kinda panicked and figured i was trying to save his life. What do you think a good choice for food should be for this big guy now? Preferably nothign that recquires prep seeing as im a lazy ..... thanks for everything!!!

Any high grade pellet. Earthworms.
Fruity pebbles, just kidding.

I saw a rtc that had swallowed a power head. I was at a pet shop and saw the fish with the cord hanging out of it's mouth. THe cleark said that when he came in that morning he noticed it and the power head was still plugged in!!!!! He unpluged it. I visited the shop a few days later, he had pulked it up and was fine.

I dont own an rtc, I do own a channel cat but mine has never done that, or at least not that I know of. I never knew a fish would eat a powerhead somehow that really amuses me. These are some pretty intresting stories, well I do hope that your rtc comes out alright!
