Not even sure if its a grouper actually or a hind. Possibly even a soapfish? LoL! Anywho, this little bugga has almost made me want to get back into SW fish again. Just curious as to what exactly he is, size, stuff like that. Thank yaz much!

Type of chalk bass maybe? I love the colors and attitude...very kewl little fish. Almost made me buy a whole bunch of saltwater equipment and get a tank going! :P

How are you guys so sure its not a grouper? Its got the typical eye structure, the overbite, right body structure...lol. Well bugga...just wanna know what type of fish it is....:(.

That looks like a Saddle Grouper to me...Plectropomus laevis.

Yeah, these guys get BIG. They are pretty rare in the trade. They just started showing up in the past few years with any sort of "regularity". Just like any of the goupers they just need A LOT of room, food, and water changes.:D They are easy to care for, just hard to find.

i dont believe it is a grouper...i think its a soap fish or like you said a hind. they are just labled saddle back groupers.

It is not a hind or a soapfish, the genus Plectopomus are the subgroup called coralgroupers.

IT IS A GROUPER! Theyre awesome, one is for sale about 7 inches, finger chaser in NH!. The one for sale around me, looks even better, with nice fangs! Its labeled.... "Yellow saddle backed grouper".
