sorry to revive an old thread
average life span is ~25 years, i believe the record is 228 years in a natural Japanese pond
i used to be obsessed with koi...until i realized i couldn't keep them well in tanks

Did that really say 228 years !!!??? The koi named Hanako was supposed to have lived over 200 but I can't find any place that confirms this.
I just looked her up by a google search for "Hanako the Koi" and found confirmation. She was documented to have died at the age of 225 years in 1977, She was owned by Dr. Komei Koshihara at the time, he had inherited her. This link has part of her story and at the bottom references to a couple other very old (100 year plus) koi. http://www.vcnet.com/koi_net/hanako.html
we're probably talking about the same one guppy, the 228 came from memory as i read about it years ago

The best pond I've ever seen was one in restraunt. It went under the floor of the restraunt and you could see the koi through the clear tiles you were walking on. Nothing as nice as a pond in the yard.

How often do your koi breed...my uncle has a 1000 gal pond ...and about 13 koi wondering if they will breed

I set up a "sunken" living room like that for a friend once.

:grinno: YOU DID !!!!!!!! :grinyes: Teach me so I can do mine. I hope to someday really build at least a fish tank. Do you know any helpful links? :woot: My memory told me that there was a 240 year old koi, jeez I was way off.

Where's the restraunt? I would like to see that . That would be awsome to build it into a house. I think if I had one indoors, that I would put something other than kio in it. Not to knock koi or anything, I like kio. Maybe some motoro's or something.

They have a japanese restraunt about 20 miles from my parents house that has an indoor koi pond with a glass bridge. It needs a decent cleaning, but it is still amazing to see. If anyone is in GA and wants to check it out, pm me.

I love your moor. Mine is what got me in aquariums he came from wall mart and lived in a 2g bowl for months. Then 5g tank. He is now happy in a 30g. He is about 3 inches and 1 and half years old. He hasn't gotten that belly yet.
