View Full Version : Armatus is here!
Let me start by thanking the guys at River Wonders. There was confusion the whole way, but it all came out good in the end. Here's how my day went so far. At 1:30am I got the call from SouthWest saying my package had arrived.(I have a good relationship with those guys over there) By 2am I was ou tthe door crusing to Midway. Took about 1 hour in the storms.... Picked the package up and opened it right away. Aramtus was there lookin real good!. Got home around 4am and acclimated him. Left for work at 5am. On my way home I stopped at a friends place who has a tank of rosies for feeders, q-t'd and feed well. Got home about 2 pm and dropped the feeders in. Within about 2 minutes the Armatus had hit and consumed one. So happy that he ate the first day.
Here are some pics, he is a bit skinny, and the pics are right up there with my usual standards, but hell at least I got some!
Second pic shows some red in his tail. Looks like a bit of an irritated spot Maybe some damage not fully healed or something, appears to be blood beneath the surface.
Thanks,
Chris

Awesome pick up man. Once he is 8-10" you will really realize what a beast of a fish armatus are. If I were you I would be worried about the ray pinning him at night time. Just something to keep in mind.

How big is it? My lil feller was a bit shy of 3 inches......
I'm gonna go ahead and throw it out there......since the red in his tail matches the adipose fin it must be a red tail Tat and NOT an Armatus.....;)
X2 on the ray.....I lost my biggest Tat to a Motoro. The ray was about 7 inches across and the Tat was 5 inches long. Thought they'de be fine together.....I was sadly mistaken.

What I have heard from most of the people who got hem from RW is they are around the 3" mark. I am now feeding my armatus large feeders. 2-3". Sharing the tank with the armatus are two ray pups. I have watched both the rays 5-6" disk take down large (3") feeders which is why I expressed concern.
Better not be a red-tail..........

Kidding man......Doesn't look like a Tat to me.
Move it away from the ray yet?
Yea, you guys freaked me out, so I tossed my divider in there. LOL
I have never been more nervous about a fish before, love the look of this guy!

You ain't kiddin.... I've slept on my couch in front of my tank more times than I've slept in my bed since I got my lil guy. I've been waiting since December for an Armatus, watching over a 3 incher is nailbiting. Been stopping for dirty feeders everynight after work. Lil bastid's taking anywhere from 5-8 rosies a night.
sweet pick up I would have loved one from them on there special but don't have a safe place to keep one....

Trev-
Usually once any kind of fish starts eating it won't stop...LOL
Pound for pound it still has a small appetite compared to my Fimbriated.
No pics over here. Head over to the other site and check out the Armatus thread in the pic gallery....pg 9.

sweet they are eating machines compared to other payara. try the krill asap! feeders get expensive. i cant even feed rosies anymore, he'll eat 100 in 24 hrs. and goldfish arent very helthy and can have alot of diseases. love whatching him chase fish though. this pic was about a month ago but its hard to get a feeding shot, they gulp them down so fast
