Even though that is a huge tank.... i don't think you can can fit that many monsters. You probably need a 10 foot long tank. And why go to the trouble of setting up a cool tank and then put oscars and jack dempseys in it? Sounds like you need to narrow your selections.

was never planing to put all the fish mentioned in a tank, just the fish i am considering... and wanted help and advise what would work... my list., i like my JD and my O, they have bags of character!
is it possible to keep gars and arowana with snakeheads all of a simalar size
Long as you don't have the agression with the aros, I think you could put them together.Oh and keep "prehistoric" as that.

i had a similar plan way back but i got some more negative answers but that was my fault for trying to put paddle fish and stergeons wich need colder temps with aros and such as far as your ideas keep it prehistoric take out the oscars and other "NEW" cics and id just go with aripamas aros and some bichirs

Keep the cichlids out! Remember catfish and tetras are technically prehistoric too (Jurassic), although more advanced evolutionally speaking.
I have two "prehistoric" tanks, they are a lot of fun...

I have an ancient tank (not quite as big as yours) with a bichir a gar a pike a clown knife and a rainbow shark.
the gar and the pike own the top of the tank
the clown knife owns the back
and the rainbow shark and the bichir live at the bottom and are excellent at keeping the tank clean of half eaten meals!
So to answer your question try to figure where these fish will idealy live then give a little space and A LOT of room to grow.

:irked:My ornate of 6 inches ate my silver arrowanna of 5 inches. I would also like to note that of the 5 types of bichirs that i have my ornate seems the most aggressive:headbang2:popcorn:gotta love em!:D:screwy::grinno:
P.S. my 1st. post yeeeaaaah show em your a tiger!!!:screwy::D

your shark may be targeted at some point. if your looking for a cat, look at big synos. and if youve got the room, maybe a shovel. but that may be pushing it, (dont knwo how your tank looks). at my store we had gars and pikes for a while, both have amazing personalities, and grow HUGE. pikes get very very territorial though and will try to be the "king" of the tank at some point most likely.

for these monsters, i think less in a tank is better it seems more kind to them to be uncrowded.

Ok so idiots making tha tank made it tall rather than wide so its been delayed a week, but in the mean time, the RTG is here! I let my GATF go, but only to a friend whos house is my 2nd home and for a £50 profit i couldnt say no, basicly a 8" GATF payed for 15" RTG :headbang2 and i still see the GATF about three times a week... so i decided its best for me to move the cichlids out now otherwise im guna want to keep em in the mix... only the RT, 4 dats, plecs and my humbug cat are left in there, and i quite like it, guna put the cichlids in a tank under neither the primitive com, maybe a 5x2x2?... but yea, defiateky need more asains to brighten it up, but they will come along the way... in the mean time, ive found a african aro!!!! its in germany and $100 shipping but sod it, im getting one! they are 12" too :headbang2

Are they OK with anything they cannot swallow? Or get picked on by anything?
Truly awsome animals. Rudimentary lung and all, I understand...

they are highly unpredictable and extreme caution is advised when tanking them with anything..... Poly and myself had a conversation about this yest and agreed that they are highly unpredictable.... they seem to go one of three ways, hate other fish, hate other bowfin or they are fine for com. but its techy and even if they seem ok they can snap at any point.... very interesting but unpredictable fish....

For a prehistoric look I would think Dinosaur.... designs that have not changed much over the years.
For a prehistoric andscape, i prefer all fish should not to be colorful. A rocky background, gravel, and sparse hardy plants tied to driftwood.
1/2 the tank litted by a spot light for the shadowy lurking effect.
A Oz lungfish, an humpy endy, a spotted gar, a green arowana, a pacman cat, an irwini, a Apurensis catfish and a brown ray.
I'll add in a school of dull colored barbs for the prey effect.

Lungfish will kill your tank, right? I read about them that even fish too large to fit in their mouths, they will bite the fish, chew and swallow till the other fish is all gone. So it can kill the ck, ornate, gar, etc.
Am I right?
