I went to a lfs that i have not been to in a while, its kinda like a petco and is a chain store. I never go there beacuse they only carry the same fish all the time and when one is fish shopping one wants something diffrent such as me. So i walked in and found this guy in a tank unmarked, the guy that worked there actually pointed out that its a payara, which shocked the **** out of me. I asked him the price he said 15.99, i decided not to buy it yet because i look and research my fish before i buy it, so i come home search mfk a bit and figure that i want this bad boy now, so i wake up at 8am and was the first customer in the shop and i bought him! there was a diffrent guy that bagged him up, he was looking on every tank for a price on him, i said..."i came here last night and was told that he was 12.99" idk why i didnt say $5 i dont know why i didnt say 15.99. i set my own prices. Anyways, so i get this guy home and i already like him, he was in a 30 till my red jewel was picking on him, so hes in a 20 till he grows a bit, but damn he mows down those roseys, hes a beast.

hydrolycus scomberoid, aka vampire tetra. this species is known to die at a young age and be very prone to ick. be very careful with his water quality, and make sure ur feeders arent sick. sweet fish though. if u like him u should find a redtail, they are more hardy and live longer.

dont blame him on the price, it wasn't even marked and the guy from the day before could have made up the 1499 or whatever...

nice fish and good pickup.

exactly, i think the guy just made up a price, because they usually go for more than 15$ right? i was questioning him about an unmarked rtc, i bet if i wanted to buy him when i got my payara i coulda got him for damn near nothing, but i didnt so give me a bit of credit

growth rate is pretty slow. if u keep him solo or only with one or two other fish he will probably stay more comfortable. when i had mine with alot of tankmates, they didnt eat as much. sweet fish to watch eat.

Lol I think it was heaps cool how you tricked them into a cheaper price, if only you could haggle for fish.

How would you feel if someone did that to you?

No matter what you call it it's still stealing.

It could have been a "bait and switch" for failing to put a label on the fish. And really if they don't have the price on it they could have simply refused to sell it.

so you are saying if somebody offered you a $50 fish for $12 you wouldn't buy it?

By the sounds of things that guy had no idea how much that fish was worth. Prices are quite often negotiable before the price is on the tank, personally I think it's the shops fault for not having their pricing done.

Not if I had been told the price was 50.00 and the clerk was making a mistake.

If the owner sells it to me at a better price thats fine but it's not the clerks money.

Not really.... he had been told the price the day before but when he was asked the price he said a price that was $3.00 less.

I'm not trying to be holyier then thou..... I have lived my life this way and have tried to teach my children by example.

I have over heard people talking about me and it's nice when you are known as an honest person that tries to do the right thing.

I don't think it was that big of a deal, I gues technically it is wrong, but I read more threads on this site about ppl paying to much for what they think is one thing just to find out it is not.

Then I hear from everyone else that the guy who got screwed should have done more research and he wouldn't have gotten screwed.

LFS will always charge you as much as they can, so them eating 3 bucks is nothing.

Whats up Zepp. Congrads on the new scomb. I have 1 scomb with 2 VATF's.My scomb was areund 2.5-3" when I bought him. Its been a little over 1 month and hes about 3.75 inches long. I hear that theyu grow about 1 inch a month and around 7-8" they slow down. I hear they do best alone since they are very nervous fish. Try to get him off live food! Try krill, silversides, whitemeat, black worms... So far I got mine off feeders for about 1 week, then I got my Vittatus. I'll try again to get all 3 of them off feeders next week. If I were you I would add Aquarium Salt and 15-20% water change once a week (min). Pretty cool fish though. I do hear that red tail and armotus is the way to go except they cost an arm and a leg

i just saw some at a local shop that were 8 to 10" for $80

the dude at the shop advised me that if i did purchase one to get a couple powerheads to get the water moving more in my tank, like to make a good current, he said something about it having to constantly move around always being very active due to a very high metabolism
he seems like a pretty knowledgeable fellow, had i really thought about buying the fish i would have researched his advise a little more before i bought one
hope this helps you
good luck
