Yoz dudes, anyone here has their gars on a pellet diet??
I'm trying to get all my fish on pellets and right now only the gar is left.. he looks at them but has'nt tried them yet.. :duh:

I had a alligator gar like 5 yrs ago that ate Tetra JumboMin. Its hard to get them to eat pellets or sticks if theyve been eating Feeder fish. but theyll probally eat anything if you starve them.

My Spotted Goar takes pellets... somemore sinking pellets!
Goes to the tank bottom and eats them!
but do u all just feed them on pellets only..... or pellets plus other feeders....
advice needed!!! but if want to feed them pellets , how long do i need to starve them, and what type of pellets u all feed(brand)???
All four of my current gars and several I've had in the past have all fed on pellets. :)

wow, the respond for pellet eating gars is good, looks like i'll keep starving him then..looks like it's just a matter of time..thanks buds :thumbsup:
it took me awhile but i got my longnose gar eating shrimp pellets and freeze dried brine shrimp so far. gonna keep trying other stuff though.
i think i will try that i feed him feeders but iam going to starve him so i can pellets

mine eats cichlid gold pellets size large
Took me months to do it, but my longnose is now eating pellets. Cut back his feeders to every 2 weeks, and he finally gave in.

Mine takes pellets too. Just starve them and show them who's boss.

I got my gars onto aro sticks without starving them. I started out by feeding them minnows gut-loaded on aro sticks/krill. I fed out the minnows one at a time. Once they got used to striking immediately at the minnows when they hit the surface, I started tossing FD krill between each minnow. Once the gars hit the krill with regularity, I started tossing aro sticks between each FD krill. Within 2 weeks, my 6 gars were completely off of live minnows and onto the aro sticks.
Now, I intermix their diet with the sticks, FD krill, and raw shrimp.
BTW, my mbu puffers are also on the aro sticks. They hit the FD krill when I fed out the gars and made the transition to sticks along with the gars.

I have a tiny spotted gar. He eats pellet like crazy. Tetra ciklid pellet and tetra discus pellet. My gar prefers pellet over mosqito larva.

My needlefish is not a true gar, but he is starting to eat freeze dried krill.
