Hi MKFers...
Yesterday spotted this unique freshwater grouper and stright away i know it is a rare find...I am still not too sure what breed it is (Genus: Cephalopholis??)...after about 20mins consideration and seeing it feeding on live feeder common cats...I decide to try my hands on...
Bought a breeder plastic tank to hold this guy in one of my tank..as this dude is only a 5 incher, I tot it would be safer in the breeder tank for the time being till it grows much bigger..considering the fact that all my fishes are monsters...
Slowly acclimatise this dude..and then put it in the breeder tank....after which I went to walk my dog....for a mere 15mins...and when i return...this dude died on me!!!!!
Till now, I do not know what caused the death...and my water parameters are alright..which leads me to think that perhaps this fish is a salt water convert? I am looking for more information for this dude...
Basically kicking myself once more for not learning more about the fish before buying..I guess this is a lesson hardest to learn for people like us...cus oddballs that are hard to find is like striking lottery!! once you give it a miss, it would be snapped up the next moment!!
I was still bragging to my fish mates on what a rare find i got and I am so happy..but it did not last more than 30mins in my house!!
Now I placed him in my freezer..no heart to throw it away..and only some pics here for remembrance...
Any brudders here can shed some lights on this fish and if this is a saltwater convert, let me know...if it is, I will bring this issue to the shop that sold me this fish..at least to tell them this is a saltwater convert and it is not right to sell them...

They probably made a mistake as well
or it could be that it was acclimated as a fresh then sold as such.
Sorry couldnt be of much help. I know nothing about saltwater fish.

in the lfs..it was doing so very fine...as i asked the lfs owner if it is feeding..she said yes and showed me by throwing some live feeds in..it did whallopped a few....but something inside me felt that its a high chance this is a saltwater convert...but seeing how well it did..I paid for it...
i guess I just have to feel like an arse for these few days for letting such an awesome monster to be fish die with my ignorance...

Well... they're stock is also much to great for them to memorise the details of all the fish.
Saw anything else good there? Perch? Rays? Oddballs?

bumblebee groupers aren't uncommon at all, in the states at least. Sucks that you lost the specimen, but it wasn't that rare, at least..

Hey RG,
Sorry to hear about your loss bro. I feel your pain. :( I know you probably wont get anything back from the store but if you point out it was Saltwater and kinda hint to them that ur really feeling bad, they might hook you up with a really good deal the next time around. it's worth a shot. If you don't try you never know what you might gain. :)
DONT FEEL BAD IF I HAD SEEN THAT SAME FISH I DEFINITLY WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT.

she said she will compensate me with other fishes but I was in a rush....so told her next time round...

Rocky. its a bumble bee grouper alright they have been quite sucessful at getting these aclimated to FW. they are a salt or high brack fish from what ive been reading and talking to dealers. The hard part is you never know if the dealer or LFS spent the time to do their jobs right. Sorry for the loss, Iwould have jumped right in too.
