Okay, a quick summery. We moved into a small house and the only spot for my 55 was the foyer. You can't really sit & enjoy the fish so we put a chair there but it stuck out too far. I had to make a bench. I made a plain bench with storage but it was plain & I had to spice it up a bit. I'll take you through my journey. LOL
For some reason the plain bench pic won't show up,, you'll have to click the link at the bottom.
I'll do a reply with more pics.

Okay,, here it is being painted & finished. It was a fun project & fairly easy to do. One thing that doesn't show in the pics is the highlighting. I painted the fish & plants a darker shade and highlighted with the lighter shade. In person it really shows off the 3-D effect. It looks like a tank, itself.
I couldn't be happier.
Oh,, I have to give credit to my wife. I was going to carve the scenery into the bench & she recommend cutting it out and gluing it on. She was right on. ;)

Great work dude!
In the middle of upgrading my 4 footer to a 6 footer and have to build a new stand. DIY can be a joy when it's finished, but a right royal pain in the arse when you havn't got any transport to go pick up the lumber for it....! Anyone out there got a spare van...??!
Just noticed - this is post#600 for me - now I'm a peacock bass! Cool!

I see a future for you :headbang2.
Maybe a similar treatment for the stand :D.
Nice tank too.

Here you go ....
What kind of wood did you use for the cutouts? Very nice BTW. I just built a stand for a 29gal., and someone told me I should look at your thread, and get some decor ideas.

Great work! Nice to see another fish artist on here too. I like to make multiples by using a two part silicone mold.
Thanks to all of you.
Yes it is MDF. I used MDF for the whole thing accept the legs. I used 3/4 for the top & smaller stuff for the box & cut-outs. 5/8??

That's very cool! What do you use for the fish?

Polymer clay. FIMO soft works best imo. If you ever decide to paint details on your fish, I would recommend using oils. Very smooth and great for blending colors without using an airbrush. Here's my latest creation:)

Nice work and good looking tank, too. It's nice to see somebody from Jacksonville on here.
BTW- Do know of any good LFS's around here? I might be being too picky, but I've been generally unimpressed with the ones I've been to lately.

Thanks.. I've actually moved from Jax. I'll be gone for 2yrs, then I'll be back. I'd have to say that Aqua Zoo on San Jose has the best selection of fish. The employs are a bit cocky but...
Other than that it's the regular chain stores & mom & pop stores. Nothing to write home about.
Oh,, there used to be a place on Beach Blvd. called Fish Mania. They specialized in Africans. I haven't been there in a few years as I got out of the Africans & I lived in Orange Park. If you're into Africans, look them up.
Later.

That's what I was afraid of.
I won't go into Aquazoo any more. Not since I saw oscars with their ribs poking out and was told it was "because they're babies":irked:

Wow! That's a nice bench. Now you got me thinking.:naughty:
Thanks for the idea! My fiancée and I have been looking for a seating option to go in our den, and also somewhere to store fish food/supplies. :D
