thats a nice fahaka preatty big too
My fahaka is about that size, so I am not the winner! I believe the largest fahaka was posted at around 16" by a member in the photo gallery a while back!
Check out this guy's Mbu, he is an overseas visitor on The Puffer Forum! He said it was over 26"++!!

Awesome Miles ! i would love to have one one day. I believe i know the guy who has the 16 inch puffer. ;)
Whoever you are, come out and post a pic of your Monsterrrrr !
My mbu puffer is around 20 inches. The largest and fattest mbu puffer I've ever seen is at The Wet Spot in Portland, OR. It is several inches longer than the side of its 180 gallon tank, so I'd estimate its total length at around 27 inches.

DAMN, the biggest one i saw was only 12 inches at my local fish store and I thought that was big.
Here's my mbu with some pals from a few months back.

How long have you had them and how big are they? I would like to have more then one in my tank... which type would you recomend?
We have a mbu puffer at about 26" who is in a tank with a learius longibarbis, two giraffe cats,a channa marulioides and two plecs and a fahaka in a tank by himself. The mbus tank is 9ft x 3ft 6 x 2ft which is about right for his size.Mbu puffers tend to be either sociable or savage so its hit and miss but there is substance in the fact of bringing them up with other fish from day one, this gives greater chance of compatability with other fish.I wouldnt try the Fahaka with anything as even if he tolerates them at first I know the clock will be ticking even if they are not piscivores.

My 14" mbu shares a tank with a 10" mbu and a leichardi aro. They've been together for about a year. The other mbus (4") are together with 6 Paratilapia large spots. My big riverine fahaka has his own tank. My lake fahaka shares a tank with several Ctenapoma acutiroste. Both fahakas are a few years old. The river fahaka (most common) is 15". The lake fahaka is an inch long.
For a community setting, go with the mbu. However, there's always a risk the mbu will add tankmates to his menu. With fahakas, it's possible, but extremely rare, to find one that will tolerate any other fish in his territory.

I should not be vewing this!! I have wanted a mbu for so long, but don't hasve room yet.
i was always under the impression MBUs should be kept alone until i came to this site, a lot of people seem to have them in a community setting. makes me tempted

Just a note to all of you who wrote "I want a Mbu"...read carefully Clare's post before you go out and look for a Mbu, and note her tank size. These guys need room, they are so beautiful fish they deserve at least that.
but.. it can be worth the effort of geting a biger tank ..it is a beuty :)

My Mbu is at 19 inches and growing fast. Lives with corydoras, congo tetras, synodontis decorus, dwarf giraffe cat and 3 Pikeheads.
I also had a 16-17 inch Nile puffer a while back. Due to its size, I was able to keep neon tetras and danios with it no probs!
Here's a photo of my Mbu at 18 inches. I will post more when I get a better camera!

I think only the leopard and figure 8's really need more of a brackish setup, fahakas, mbu's, and congos etc I think are fine in pure fresh ~Trent
