something that has a capacity of thousands of gallons. These fish grow extremely large.

You should be asking: "What size pond do I need for an alligator gar?".

These brutes grow to 300lbs. Here's a pic of a 180 pounder.

For the aquarium, try the Tropical gar. It looks identical to the wide-jawed gator but you'd only need a tank that's 10ft X 5ft to house it.

Hiya gatorgar, Welcome to MFK.
starting with a six inch alligator gar it would out grow a 150 bowfront in the first year, not only do they get huge but they need a larger turning radius than most fish, they don't need deep water so 2' depth is okay but a good sized adult will need a a pond around 16'x 20' to stay healthy, that is almost 4800g. It would make a great center piece to a fish room with a couple carp and channel cats.
