Thier favorite treat, they gorge themselves, then sit on the bottom like they just ate at McDonalds.

Do you chop it up or just open the shell and throw it in? I may have to try this :) They do seem to be enjoying it.

I buy green mussels on the half shell. I put the whole half shell in for the large ones. For the small loach tank, I put the same in, but when they start looking plump I transfer the remainder to the big ones.

I would send you some, but the smell would be unbearable by the time you got them.

Very Nice loaches .......Right now I keep my loaches with Bala sharks & Frontosas , do you think mussels would harm my other fish ?

Shouldn't harm them, but mussels will cloud your water a bit.

I want to try this with my loaches.

Where do you get the mussles? Supermarket?

Also these are freshwater mussles right? Not the ones I can get at the beach.

You get mussels from the supermarkets. What we get here came from the sea.;)

I would like to try this out but my loaches don't really seem to like market shrimp or veggies like cucumber or zucchini while others here say theirs love them.

My loaches love shrimps but the bichirs just grab them before the loaches could even get enough share.:WHOA:

Where do you get your Mussels from, have you ever had issues with them having alot of heavy metals in them?

where do you get these mussels? could you use fresh water clams that are found in my local lakes?

I use green mussels, I get them from an orinetal market. They are sold in a grocery, so I am assuming that they have no heavy metals, but can't confirm. My loaches love them and I have seen no ill effects.

The problem with clams and mussels specifically is that some have larvae that are parasitic in nature. I would buy them frozen. Also, malaysian trumpet snails are great treats for your loaches.
