Picked up a 5" ngt 2 weeks ago and only thing i've got him to eat is live river shrimp. anyone got any clues on how to get him onto frozen foods like mussels, market shrimps/prawns. I've got 7 other dats (5 bigger and 2 smaller than the ngt) that take them fine but I'm worried if i start feeding shrimp again they'll start to reject the frozen and it's pretty hard for me to get hold of live food often.

If the NGT is in the same tank as the other Dats that are already eating market shrimp, prawns etc. Then he will eventually get the idea, especially if thats all he is offered.

yep... that works ;)

agree with TC ... dats learn how the other dats eat and will go after what the others are eating once he is hungry .. it might take a couple of weeks before he will learn that frozen shrimp is food .. if 3 weeks pass and he's still not eating, I'd quarantine him and feed him live again but give him a 1/3 amount live shrimp than what you normally feed him every other day for about 2-3 feedings .. during this time, feed only one live shrimp at the time until fully eaten

at the 4th feeding, put some live shrimp to sleep in the freezer, take them out and start throwing one dead one at the time in the tank. He should take these dead shrimp by now. Continue for two or 3 feedings of dead shrimp. After which, switch to frozen shrimp. Cut them up the same size as the dead shrimp. This works everytime. Good luck and let us know progress.

yep i agree also, my silver i bought a few weeks ago would not eat so i kept on feeding as i was and the other day it just started to eat what the others were eating.
it took about 3 weeks though but its eat or die.

Along with everyone else that has posted...I agree as well.

My NGTs were the same way when I got them...only eating live. They would come out and eye the frozen foods, but never took them. One day, one of my NTTs came flying out of his cave to get some krill and the NGT saw him going for it and took it...after that he's been eating frozen without any problems.

By the way...he is GORGEOUS.

I love that intense yellow coloration. Do you have anymore pics of him??
