I would get a male green terror and make it huge! If I could afford it I would get it a huge tank just for itself.

I never see a large green terror, they are always like feeder fish size.

i also completly agree, only try to make my True gt like 13-14"+ that'd be the coolest thing ever, he's 3.5" now and he's got better colors than 85% of the adult umbees i see at 12"+. on cichlid.com they said that gt's can get to like 15", i have never seen that personally nothing over 10", but they had a pic of a HUGE green terror they said was 14"

A 14" GT sounds like a freak of nature. I've never seen or heard of one that big. I personally raised a male GT for over 8 years before he died of a horrible eye infection. He was only about 10" but very thick and full bodied.

Sorry to jack this thread but here he is in his final days. I would pick a pair of jags over GT's.

those 2 green terrors are gorgeous!!!!!

I have a female thats maybe 2.5 inches with her tail and her fins are just starting to come to a point. Its not like annoyingly aggressive either. It stands up for itself or hides. perfect disposition.

the time invested in growing out green terrors is truly amazing. That is why I see them as such a masterpiece. They are pokey little growers and you have to really be patient.

Hard to say. I've had a 12" jag that was pretty outgoing... tetracanthus aren't very common (have a batch growing out now). I've had a 8-9" male GT that was a pushover. Can't really beat the looks of a breeding pair of festae, though.

id go with the jags as both of them look amazing, yeah the female red terror is awesome but the male isnt that good, but you've had them before(jags)havnt seen cubans so?

i now a good idea why not get a big tank and have one of each of them: male jag, female red terror, male cuban, male green terror and a male severum:)

You'd need one hell of a large tank for that mix to work... severum + GT in with the big bruisers??

I have to disagree. A 10+inch male festae is in my opinion more beautiful than a female festae. they don't really come into their own until they hit a good size. I think Dannydovii on aquamojo.com had a couple of Beautiful pairs. The males were stunning. My male was coming around when he hit 6-7 inches.

Cubans have always been on my hot list as have Festae.

I picked festae, but honestly most of those are fairly common cichlids, at least where I'm from.

I'd rather spend a few months hunting down a "dream species". Something very cool and unusual that isn't seen much in the hobby. It helps me appreciate my fish more and then if I can get them to breed I feel good getting rare cichlids back in the hobby.

Festae. They just aren't as common as all of those. Around here atleast, the next hardest thing on that list to get is a Jag. And there's maybe.. 2 stores I've been to that don't have Jags. So that's how common they are around here. Plus, c'mon.. True Red Terrors look amazing.

Cubans and almost impossible to get in the U.K

I have kept all sort of cichlids from big cuban to big haitiensis but nothing beats a full grown gold or white saum.

I am still looking for my perfect gold or white saum. I got rid of many of them because I did not like their body shape. I even had a GT that grew from 2 to 8" in less than five month before I gave it to Ruck Fules.

I was at my friend's house watching a video tape (old timer) of his fish that he used to own. He had this GT that was a freak of nature. It was at least 12" long and had a huge hump. The colors on that GT were just amazing. I am currently down only to 2 GTs in my collection, but they are looking pretty good and have the potential to be show fish.

BUT now have had a new idea!
im getting a 30x30x30 for the cubans
getting a 92gal corner tank for the red terrors to grow out in and then keep (if there is) a pair
and in the 120 grow a female Jag out to breed back to the Xanthic boy

the oscar, gt and sev was just to add choice really BUT i do like them as well just not as mutch:headbang2

i'd go with a xanthic pair of festaes or maybe electric blue jaguars :D

ok, on a serious note... i would probably say jaguars because i think their personalities are great.

cubans would get a close second because they are pretty uncommon and seem to pack a punch in terms of personality.
