My neighbor was helping carry in my 220 and dropped his end breaking the big piece of glass. :(

How much should I expect to pay for a replacement piece? The size is 1/2" thick 72" long x 30" tall.

Also, does anyone know of any good glass shops in or around Charlotte, NC? One that will deliver would be even better.

Thanks very much.:)

Id make him pay for it.. or punch him in his face.
probaly better off buying a whole "new" used tank
then what you will pay for a peice of glass that big.

there is a place in raligh i cant remember the name i will post it when i find it.

check the phone book, some times window makers can special order glass.

He offered to help pay for it, he's a good guy. Just bad luck this time.

I'd love to buy a new one, but where I'm from, 220's are expensive.

it's hard to get FREE help any more... I also wanted to ask why you only had one person on each end of a 220 gallon glass tank...was this a try out for american he-man or something you managed to get away with previously?

Reguardless of the weight I have at least 4 people on a 120 for just this reason.

I only use two on tanks of that size, but we are really large guys... otherwise it is me and 3 other people...plus a few just incase... thats why I call on my MFK peeps... two can move... and we look pretty scare when we are out in force too... too bad we are on our way to look at fish... otherwise people might call the police... I have biker gangs look friendier than Indiana MFKers

I don't look at it from the standpoint of whats POSSIBLE or the size of the 'dude's' involved in the move...thats simply not responsable. The thing about flerting with disaster is that occasionally you get it's undivided attention...

Good advice, but four people couldn't fit through the door. It was around back (for safekeeping while I cleaned it out). The back door is only 30" wide and the tank moulding is 25". It wasn't that it was too heavy for us, he just lost his footing going backwards. I held my end up through the entire ordeal and am extremely lucky not to have broken more than one pane of glass.

Believe me, I totally regret doing it this way. But I was in a hurry (it's going to rain soon) and wanted to avoid carrying it (with 4 people) all the way around the house (100') or loading it back up in the truck and take a chance on breaking it loading or unloading. I guess it's really my fault for not getting more people and doing it the longer, harder way. But, then again, I didn't drop my end, even after he dropped his.

To quote Homer Simpson, "You can't keep blaming yourself. Just blame yourself once and move on." :D

Here's the thread where I'm literally giddy bragging about my awesome deal. I guess it's not so awesome anymore, lol. :)

But still, I've only got $40 tied up in the tank and wet/dry sump so far. The only thing I'm missing (besides the glass that's now broken) is a pump for the sump.

So, does anyone have any idea how much a piece of 1/2" thick glass 72"x30" will cost?

At the end of the day, you live and you learn, or sometimes bad things happen to good people, or I'll just chalk this up to a learning experience, or I've always wanted to learn how to replace a pane of aquarium glass, or it needed resealing anyway, or etc., etc.. It could be a lot worse. Did I mention I've only got $40 tied up in a 220 gallon tank and giant sump?:)
