Just took these pic's of my Jag tonite and realize these are probably as good a picture of him that i am going to get.. he has really come along way since i got him.. and now that he is eating a more varied diet he is really looking healthy.. Post those Jags please and lets talk about them.

thanks, they are a pair, they at first were not so fond of each other, and there we some jaw locking, but after i had them seperated for a awhile the male got fed up and knocked down the divider, i guess he just wanted his girl, they are alone in a 125 gal, and are currently breeding:) , thanks for the q's

Nice jag Red Devil! Here is Jaggy. He is about 13" now and definitely has Monster attitude. The bigger they get the more beautiful they become. What lighting/techniques is everyone using to highlight the purple/violet sheen? It find it shows up more when using a camera flash or with a good amount of diffuse sunlight beaming through the side of the aquarium. It's the nicest feature of these fish IMHO. Rallysman has taken some great pictures of his fish and tank. Perhaps he could chime in here.

I held a mirror in one hand and the camera in the other. It's tricky to quickly snap a picture after moving the mirror out of the way but you'll get a few keepers. For lighting, it's just the tank lights.

I've had him for about 2 years and he's only about 9-10". He was one of those fish you see at the lfs for the longest time before you decide to buy it. He was about 4" when I got him.

wow that is the biggest Jag so far that i know of that someone posted a picture,.. if i am wrong tell me.. but 151/4 inches is fantastic and what a really beautiful picture.. did you have him since a baby..so nice to see one of this age.. hope you both share many more years together.. congradulations and thanks very much for posting his picture. ;)

I agree 11 years old and almost 16" wow u got a great jag Schnauzer:thumbsup: here is my jag pair a 11" male and a 9" female they are 4 years old in a 125gal.I am not sure what is holding back my jags growth rate the first year of their life they ate live feeders goldfish:nilly: mostly for my entertainment but for the last 2 years they have not had a feeder fish just nightcrawlers and hikari gold:D i figure if they had worms or another sickness from feeders it would long be perged out by now i did put them in a 75 gal for year or so could that have permently stunted them?:nilly: i don't think so they have been in a 125 for almost 2 years now and little change.:cry: .Also my devil pair had the same diet and are the same age but they attained full size 13" male 10" female and still growing.I am a little frusterated with their growth stalling any suggestions?

This guy has never had any fish in his life. Occasional earthworm and once in a while raw shrimp. He does love freeze dried krill. He will smash through anything like a bulldozer to get to the FD krill. I made the mistake of feeding him a bunch of krill every morning to finish off a can. Now every morning when the lights go on he rushes down to where I feed and stares at the top. Of course he gets what he wants. I by the krill by the what looks like 2 quart cans.

I have had quite a few Managuense and they all grew very fast for the first couple of years. I have always done 60 to 75% water changes every week.

Most of the jags that I've had I bought when they were tiny. This one and another that I have now I bought when they were 6 months old or a little older. People but that pretty little fish only to discover that when it get older that it gets big and gets mean.

yes i know ..thats how i got mine.. he was brought back to LFS..and i rescued him because that piticuliar LFS was the pitts!!:eek: Your boy is awesome and you should feel proud about him and his picture;)

They are beauties but for some reason they both look female to me.. did you ever have fry... just wondering because females do stay smaller.. and they do not look like the male pattern to me.. i am no expert but just questioning?? :naughty:

yes they spawn regularly i have collected fry only once they eat their eggs every time and if i reintroduce them to the fry they will eat them also at any stage of development they are not a good spawning pair for those reasons i know most jags are good parents.I guess they all can't be winners all the time but i did get my devil pair from the same community grow out and they are excalent parents i guess that's where all the luck went .

yes that happenes sometimes.. but they are beauties and maybe if you collect the fry and put them into 10 gal tank..or do they eat them almost right away before you have a chance.. :( you would have some awesome Jags.. I quess the pattern does not mean that much.. my female looks like yours..yes i have seen your beautiful breeding pair of devils.. makes me wish i could do that with mine..but i doubt i ever will.. and maybe the jags will do it for you eventually.. your still blessed that everyone gets along so well:grinno:

As they grow they get the color and pattern becomes more intense, and their fins become wider and bigger and their mouth becomes almost their whole head and their eyes turn this intense brownish red.. they get a purple hue to them.. they just get incredible looking..and then you know your babies have become awesome monsters.. i loved warching my female transform..but be patient..because theres a whole lot of changing taking place.. with their growth. :D

I used to have a little jag that I raised from 1". He hit 5" in less than 3 months cause I power fed him Tetra Cichlid bites and some feeders and shrimps and stuff. Did daily 50% water changes on the 10 gallon he was in. Sadly I was unable to keep him anymore cause my mom wouldn't let me get a bigger tank in that small apartment, so I sold him back to the lfs, but he was really vibrant in color.

We have enjoyed all of these Jag pictures too. :) Took some more pictures of our "Jaggy" recently-he has not stopped growing that's for sure! We now have a long 100 gallon tank to get ready for him, The extra 2 feet of bottom area he will enjoy even though the tank is still only 18" wide and 18" tall. He has been a little cramped in a 90 gallon, territory wise although the extra height is nice for viewing large fish at a distance. That's what is so nice with those 180 gallon+ tanks. Oh well maybe one day...;)

At this size he was holding his own with an oscar twice his size for a while in a 40 gallon. The Oscar is not around anymore-we were kind enough to find him another home:D

hehe love the shot.....my jags just started flaring with my severum....i had to remove a lot of the plastic plants because they all kept uprouting them <a 10 litre bucket full and some all gone..hehe....tank looks bigger now...since all th plants went except two hes got more bolder

Here is my Jaguar, Jig Jig. She is a year old this month and is at 8 1/8".
She is in what used to be a convict tank, but they have lost the squabble and it is now her tank. They now have to share. They get along for the most part, though daddy con is always flaring his gills at her.
I used to drop in baby cons for her to chomp on, but she doesn't seem to want to do anything but watch them explorer their new surrounding's. Then little con's swim with her all over the tank when the 2 bigger convicts start chaseing them out of their area. She do hate the little bushynosed plecos though, always trying to catch them to put a hurtin' on them.

Hey guys quick question what size can jags be sexed? I am picking one up in a couple days and yes he will be on this thread as soon as i get him lol. Anyways they have a bunch at my LFS and I found one thats like 3 inches, has patterns on the fins no stripes really and white and black. He/she seemed to be the top dog in the tank.
