I agree if we were discussing strictly the geographic location of the two, but since our discussion was about Cichlidae...I was refering to the morphology and cladistic similarities of the fish.
Madagascar cichlids are closer to the "ancestral cichlids" and in turn closer to the New world cichlids then they are to the typical and wussy "African lake cichlid" (in most cladograms Ive seen).
I was a bit too vague I guess...
"The polleni are still my favorite cichlid-which is from Madagascar not Africa"
I'll try to be a bit more concise and tread lighter next time
Just to re-emphasize my point: Madagascar cichlids are not African Lake cichlids.
And the Polleni is definitely "hearty" enough to be in a New World tank (there are firemouths in there for crying out loud)...they just don't pick their battles as well as they should

and sometimes take a beating for it.

And you can keep the "duhhhh!!"'s to yourself.
