Are there more than 1 species of monkfish? The ones in New England are tan and even wider.

I think it looks more like an oyster toadfish

It isn't a toadfish. Those don't get this big, and they are dark brown. But then again, there could be other species, also.

There are at least 3 types of Lophius sp. that are called monkfish, there are also fish that are not related that are sometimes called monkfish,such as the Squatina sp. of angel sharks.

Sure doesn't look like a monkfish to me either. Has characteristics of the sculpin family. Anyone know where this fish was caught?
