i need a canister filter to run my 45-46gal. tank. i have never had a canister filter before and i am on a limited budget (buying tank, filter, decor tomorow). i want one that will be effective yet not cost that much (60-70$)

bro my opinon money is no object with filtration !, let me ask this what type of fish are you planing to keep??? myself on one tank(55galL) I spent $500 on twin fluval 404's it house's one 9" oscar..

You might have a hard time finding a canister filter that inexpensive. I believe a Fluval 104 is offered for $59.99 from BigAlsOnline.com, not exactly sure. If you have a quality PetSmart in your area, they may pricematch this, so you don't have to wait. If you want it to run more effecient, remove the carbon cartridges and add extra biological media.

Curious.. Why "Must" you have a canister filter? Do you have no other options?

they have fluval 404's going for 109 dollars online right now at Petco. :D

Marineland 350 is going for 89.

seriously, an aquaclear 500, 500 gallons an hour for 46 dollars shipped from big als.

never mind. i can get a power filter. i just remeasured and i have enough space. it just has to be 3-31/2" in the back to fit. the tank will house one GT and a ropefish if i can find one. so which power filter should i get?

oh, btw, the tank will be close to my bed so the filter has to be quiet (doesnt have to be totally quiet just cant make humming noises)

aquaclear 500 is pretty quiet. I don't have it in my room though so not sure what your looking for in terms of noise, but it shouldnt make to much. Best hang on the back filter out there for the price.

unless you get afew grains of sand and or gavel in their

personally id go with a emperor

i like the way the water trickles

the emperors are too wide. i could get an aquaclear 50 w/ no width prob. the aquaclear 70 woul be a squeeze though
