I am thinking of getting two dwarf puffer fish, and placing them in my very small 3 gallon tank with my dwarf frogs but I am wondering if the puffers would cause problems in there with the frogs. I am also curious if that wouldnt work about putting them in my 20 or if they would be to busy nipping fins. I have heard they like to nip fins
OK, disclaimer: I don't know a lot about puffers.
But, I would think that 3 gallons is too small for two dwarf puffers.
The puffers might also try to eat or just nip and harass the frogs to death.
I don't think they would work with the current fish you have in the 20, for sure they would nip at the betta.
Can someone else who knows puffers help out here?

You can fit two dwarfs in a 3 gal. They only get bout 1" to 1.5". I dont know bout those frogs though you would think they would eat the dp's. Personally I would prolly try it just watch closely.

Very true. I see them for like 5 bucks round here all the time. They also have complete setups for like 40 dollars.
The puffers will terrorize the frogs, and the tankmates in your 20.
They might be ok in the 3g, but I think one will become dominant and eventually stress out and kill the other. Heavily plant it and give them lots of broken lines of site and territory. I would say upgrade your tank a little and go for 3 ;)

I am currently about to purchase another 25, 30, and 18 but I allready have plans for those, and living in a dorm room I dont have room for much more. But I like puffers thats why I was thinking about putting them with the frogs.

dwarf puffers are happy in small schools and it is easyier to sex them so i would go 2m and 4 f in a ten gallon w/ lots of plants

in small schools? no way. dwarf puffers are way territorial, and they definitely think that they are way stronger than they are. you can keep two in a 3 until they mature but yeah, the dominant one will harass the weak one to death (yeah, it's happened to me). in a 20, that's okay as long as they have space to hide in shrubby grasses, etc.
i doubt the puffers would care about the frogs, since they don't move much or anything. i know dwarfs are fine with like, an oto and other lazy fish. but yeah, they ate my poor guppy tails to death.

they also totally recommend one dwarf to every 5 gallons of water when they are mature, males want more.

I think the puffers and frogs would be a bad match. Like the others said I belive the fish would pick the frogs to death. Although it would most likely be a slow process. I used to have a couple of these guys and I had two in a community 55gallon. The were never a problem and were not fast enof to catch anything. Most of the time they just hovered around. I did have a smaller cichlid in there at one time, can't remember what kind. It tried to eat one about three times, got it in it's mouth and the little guy must have had some sort of talk-sens or spikes cause he sure didn't like it! :D

acidburn 470,
If you get Dwarf Puffers they should have at least 3g to themselves. I have two Dwarf Puffers in a 5g Minibow moderately planted setup along with 2 guppies, 1 oto, and a ghost shrimp. They get along alright except for a few tug of wars over the live black worms. Puffers are very territorial not so much when they are young and if there are a lot of plants so there is no line of sight. They are very intelligent and fun to watch hunting on the bottom of the tank. They won't eat pellets or flakes and they are not skittish. For more information on them go to www.dwarfpuffers.com there you will find lots of great info and helpful aqauarists willing to set you up properly.
The dwarf frogs would look odd without legs, I am pretty sure that is what would happen.
yah I owned dwarf puffers before, I thought oh there small they cant be that mean. They are little bizatches. =( Extremely mean little fish. mergh Dont keep anything with them but themselves. Yah make sure they have space.

space is sooo not an issue for you man, i just found a 30 gal in my basement, im gonna try and pay my roommate off so i can have the 40, the 55, the 20 and the 30 in the dorm room. Ill prolly have to give him like 50 bucks or something, but its so worth it ;) id suggest not making the same mistake as shoko did with her puffers, Id have to agree with the 1 in the tank, maybe with a neon or 2 and a few plants would make for an interesting tank, but leave the froggies alone
DP are only supposed to reach 1.5 inches right, but has anyone's DP ever gotten bigger? I know a good pet store that usually take surprisingly good care of their fish. and the fish specialist is very knowledgeable... but recently I have seen puffers labeled as dwarfs that were at least 3 inch long. They also had a tank of puffers labeled as T. nigiris two of them had patterns much more similar to that of cyclone puffers, and with no spots! Can the coloration of these fish vary a lot or the pet store is just trying to con its costumers? :nilly::confused::(
Sorry I meant Green puffers! :)
