I don't know much about them but I hear that they are pretty mean, any truth to that? just curious.

Scott - most are, but South Americans are pretty mellow.

Read the previous post entitled "Possible female lungfish" to get details of her history. I feed daily, or every other day. She eats on average 6 algae wafers, 2-3 peeled raw shrimp, and maybe a few silversides. She lives with many other fishes, so i make sure they all get a nice share.

a well-fed SAL kept in a large tank with the right diet, water change volume/frequency, temperature, (and genetics) can reach 24" in their first year. a fellow lungfish keeper i know has done this and the fish is truly an impressive specimen. overall a great species to keep if you are into lungfishes and want to maintain some sort of predatory community tank--

The black ones - as in here, are from South America. There are African ones (four species) which are much more aggressive than the South American. All of them are awesome.
