recently, mr. e_americanus from aquatic predators was able to import these with people from shark aquarium; but if you love these fish so much that you would buy them from foreign countries i got some Japanese links for you. (if you need translations pm me)
i know many people who keep these fish since tropical gars are a common aquarium fish along with cuban gars, asian arowanas, and pirarucus in Japan. which are a pretty uncommon site in the american fish trade.
so...

the average size you see in the fish shop is 2' which cost around $300(not including international shipping)

shipping, taxes and other fees not to mention the initial cost of the fish all add up pretty fast

no tax fee in Japan, it's included in the product fee over there.
but shipping costs; let me see it cost me $10,000 this summer when i went there(i'ma human), i think it's cheaper for fish.HAHA
but dA fish alone is pretty cheap for the size that they are sold at (average 2') yes 2FEET!

No, i mean taxes on this side of the world. US Customs isn't going to let that through without making some money off it.

And i don't know what airline you fly, but you got majorly ripped off.

oh so even if you buy fish from Japan, if they ship it to dA USA, u still hav to pay tax??

and how do u get ripped off on an airplane, unless it's on dA private jet.HAHA
i took JAL(japan air lines) first class.
1million yen=$80,000 since $100=around 10,000YEN
if i saved up for a tank, do you know how big it could of been...

you paid 10,000 dollars for 1 flight? I don't believe you, not for 1 second. You can get a return to tokyo for like £330.

$80,000, i wouldn't believe myself either!!
unless it's like a plane that goes to space and back to Narita Airport(Japan)

Ive always maintained the logic that if youre gonna lie, make sure people will believe it.
