this IS a snakehead, one of the variant.
it's big but there are biggers
Trick photography. Notice how he extends his elbow far from his body, and close to the camera?.... Genuine size fish is photograph closer to the body, or have some type of measurement. That fish is probably like a 16 inch specimen.

LIke I said, take a picture of a fish held close to you, and another that you extend your arms...see the difference. That is the "trick" to make the fish look bigger. If the arms are extended far from the body, then it is close to the camera. Closer to the camera makes the item bigger. Hold the item close to your body, and it will show how big it is.
Compare it to this picture.

All fishermen knows this trick of making the fish look bigger when taking pictures. I always take their hands and compare that to the fish but sometimes you don't get a good shot of their hands/forearm with the fish.
And that fish being carried.....must take days to get him to shore.
Anybody think a fish have ever eatin people, fresh water fish that is.

Brachyplatystoma filamentosum - "Piraiba" (catfish being carried in above pic)
Wallago attu - "Tapah" ('Giant Man-Eating catfish')
Silurus glanis - "European wels" :uhoh: perhaps, maybe?? Anybody know??

Yes he may have his arms extended out to make it look bigger but as fish base has said this actual fish was 99.5cm(39.17") long. That is still a big fish and a lot bigger than the 16", you can't make a fish look that much bigger by just using the lenght of your arms. :)

I dunno if it's trick photography. You can judge the size of the snakehead by the size of his fingers. And we all know that they can get that big.

Not at all. You can easily note the relative length of the anal fin as well as the insertion point of the pelvic fin in the photo.
In a bowfin, the anal fin would be much shorter and the pelvic fin farther back in relation to the dorsal fin.

the bowfin, amia calva is in no way related to the species channa.
It isnt a snakehead.

:clap we are talking apples and oranges
The northern snakehead in the pictures (Channa argus) gets to 34+"s, yes the perspective does make the fish look a little larger in comparison to the guy but what do you want him to do, hold it behind him?
Hiya turdburglar, welcome to MFK, the picture is several years old and is one of the ID shots from a database site called fishbase. The Amia calva, Bowfin does indeed have a superficial resemblence to a channa but are not related, they hold similar ecological niches as hardy, adaptable, predators and live in the same type of habitats.
