how many diffrent types of gar are they and the diffrents name people use on gars alot lfs have them under difrent names

there are seven extant species of 'true gars' (meaning those belonging to the family Lepisosteidae). two genera, Lepisosteus & Atractosteus. photos of all species and their scientific names can be found in the gar section of www.primitivefish.com.

there is also information in this forum, hence re-typing it all here would be a bit repetitive. hope that helps--

this is the GAR forum. i would assume he is asking about "true gar" in which the answer was already stated above.
