How many RBPs can keep if i just have 40g of tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You would be better off going with just one. RBPs are schooling fish and do not work well in pairs. Minimum RBP set up 3 in a 75g. Better if you can go with5-6 in a 125g 6 foot tank.

icic, i was just planning to buy this week a 3.5" rbp... at first, i planned to just put in a 10 gal tank... it is just my first time to see this forum and give me ideas that aproximately, a RBP must have a 20 gal tank.. if im just gonna keep a RBP is it alright to keep it in a 10 gal tank?

Even if you're only getting one RBP, I can tell you this, a 10 gallon isn't much space for long. It's already too small for the size you're thinking on getting. I've had mine just about 2 months and he's grown almost 2 inches in that time.

You want to go MINIMUM 29 gallons, your 40 would be perfect.

If you consider the size of a ten (20x12x10.5) and your piranha gets 10" long....that tanks only twice his length, and just barely wider than he is long!! That's like trying to turn around in a bathtub, while you're on your hands and knees.....not very easy.

hmm... really... is it really odd to have just a pair of RBPs in a 40g tank? if not, will the RBPs still grow up to 10" big even if its just a pair of RBPs?

There is no way you can out grown RBP in 40gallin to 10" infact not even 75gallon or 90gallon...

if you want to out grow RBP get atleast 125gallon or bigger. The bigger tank the better for them.

2 piranha in same tank are bad ideas. Piranha do well with group of 3 and/or more. If you have 2 piranha in one tank their will fight over territories and aggression.

I would get just one RBP for your 40gallon.

Also having BIG tank are not the only thing you can do to out grow RBP to 10".

for sample: for you have 200gallon with 3 RBP in there and you are trying to grown them up to 10" is not going to get there if you doesn't know how the proper care them.

Here is some tips to out grow piranha in short term and grow fast.

1. tank size, the bigger tank you can get the better for them (more space to exercise)
2. Water change, atleast once a week about 30-50% with vacuum the gravel.
3. Water quality, keep your ph, kh, etc...in good # is one of the most important thing to grow piranha
4. Diet, feed piranha variety diffferent diet. Don't over feed them or don't feed them small portion.

small 2-3 time a day
medium 1-2 time a day
adult once a day or every other day with good portion of diet.

It's all combo with well maintain to keep piranha healthy and grow big and fast. Not just tank size, not just food, not just enviroment, it's ALL together.
