im not sure if im wording this right but theres a way to like times your gph times ur tank size and get the cycle times. i hope ppl know what im talking about. please help so i can figure out if i have enough filteration.

yeah gph divided by tank size, example 1000gph on a 100 gallon tank would be 10 times an hour

1. How big is your tank?
2. What kind of filter are you running?
3. Do you have anything else moving water (like powerheads)?

For instance, in my case in one of my tanks...

1. 55 gallons
2. Emperor 400 (400 gallons per hour) & Emperor 280 (280 gph)
3. 2 Pengu9in 1140 powerheads (300 gph each)

400+280+300+300=1280 total gallons per hour. So my tank, theoretically (not taking into account losses at the pumps of filters or filters on powerheads) is over 20 times per hour (20 times per hour being 1100 gph or 55x20).

How does that sound?;)

120 gallon tank and a fluval fx5 filter. thats it.

i believe the fx5 does either 600 gph or 900??

The FX5 runs 750 on my 110 long...this is checked with an inline flow meter but media selection and set up all make a differance. figure 600 on the safe side. Then add an E400 and a pair of hydro5 sponge filters and your good to go....

With the Fluval canister theoretically at 600 gph, your tank water would be turning over 5 times per hour.
