The last few days my jag has been hitting the lid(glass) hard enough to leave a bright red line across his head, I'm worried that he will do some serious damage to himself. Is there anything I can do besides lowering the water to help prevent this?

My FH cross does this in a "watching then jumping" fashion.I assume it is because the drops of water that accumulate then finally fall entices him, like bugs waiting to be eaten. So a remedy might be difficult.Nothing short of tilting the tank glass numerous times a day to roll the drops off:(:(

I used to own a 6 inch female Dovii, she had her own 100 gal tank and did this all the time,so i threw in some Dithers(danios)the dovie chased those fish it seemed day and nite.Well after they were all dead my Dovii took a hiding spot in some rock work and guarded it with her life..no more jumping at the cover.Dont know if this will help you,but it worked for me.Good luck!!

might be trying to get you but yeah take anything off it that might look likew food or a threat but if it gets bad you may have to lower the water so he can't hit the glass as hard

If I have to lower the water then the HOB's will have to go. The tank is in the living room and I can't stand the sound of running water. I tried lowering the water once and the noise drove me crazy. :nilly:

lol sorry to here about this, father anoying my dads oscar does this aswell. all i can say is maybe remove what ever hes going for?

My male Jag use to do that all the time. It use to scare the crap out of my mom when I still lived at home. After I got him a bigger tank, the banging stopped.

How long has this been going on? Have you added anything new to the tank, such as a heater or anyother items. Are your water parameters where they should be? I have heard and experienced fish that were trying to leave the tank because of these issues.
