Hey I just found this site and discovered the snakeheads and they look freaking awesome. How much do they normally cost? and do they eat each other. I've been told that black pirahnas do.

i'm pretty sure that they are illegal to buy anymore of them now.
i think if you had it before 2003, you can still keep your snakehead.

but how much did they cost?

I live in Canada usually they aren't as quick to ban stuff as Americans, are they legal in Canada?

They are still legal there, I have seen at least one Canadian member mention buying one, I think it was in BC. I don't remember the price mentioned. Ontario is considering banning them.

One of the deciding factors of a ban will undoubtedly be whether they can survive in the wild if set free.Snakeheads are very adaptable, can take poor water quality but most importantly can breath air so they can migrate from pond to river etc. Some species can even take ice if still able to take air through holes. Many people fall in love with the small cute micropeltes and when it grows into a monster and kills their tank contents they dump them in the nearest stream, pond river or lake.In some parts of the world they have resorted to poisoning to try to eradicate the threat to some ecosystems.

if you have no fear, you can catch them in America for free... But be ready for some awesome fines when the dept. of F&W come knocking on your door.

Well I live in Montreal, Canada, and just bought a juvenile snakehead about 3 hours ago... the lfs named it "3 Spot Snakehead". I grabbed the bigger in the tank, he's about 3-4 inches. The smallest fish in my tank is a pair of 6" albino oscars. So hopefully I can enjoy it for a while while it grows, after which he will have a tank of his own.

I dropped the snakehead in with a dozen goldfishes, to keep the others busy. I am afraid my shovelnose will try to have him for lunch. Now he is hiding in the rocks...at least I hope he is and that he did not already disappear :)

I'll send pictures when he I see him...lol

They are in Florida, go to the Piranha forum, there is a map(sticky) of which states allow them.

Okeefenokee, or okeechobee. I've seend Roland Martn catch a nice 16 incher channa, but I think it's striata, not redline. Striatas are not as voracious as the micropeltes.
