I never cared about fish my whole life until I got my job in a pet store and started to learn more and more about the fish and the tanks that we had in there. In about two months of working there I was in charge of all 50+ tanks... and then all the money I was making was going toward the hobby at home.... :)

A cheap 20 gallon high tank and ten feeder goldfish, followed by assorted pumpkin seed sunfish. Other than that i love the idea of viewing a little slice of something different at home. Been doing it for about 18 years now so far so good :)

Won a goldfish at the fair. She actually made it about two years in a bowl. Had tanks until I was 18. Took about a two year break.
Got bored one day planned ot a patio for this place with a small fountain. Boyfriend comes up while I'm still scheming this out in my head and says..."there's a bathtub out there you could use it would be better and you could keep fish in it." I resaerched it and found out we could maybe get 5 goldfish in there I told him and he decided that we should just go ahead and patch the old jacuzzi shell we had out in the back yard (some one had patched it with roof material and was trying to use it as a swimming pool; when they moved they left it.) Got goldfish, got koi, realised winter is boring with a pond even in SoCal.
Got a great deal on danios to fill the tanks we'd been using to raise goldfish fry. Saw some dojos had to have one since I always had one in my tanks before. Some where about 6 months ago I got myself a 75 gallon stock tank.
I sent him out for loaches one day and he came back with this 7" purple thing a "South American Dragonfish"...poor thing did not make it through the night. Violet goby...marbled goby....same thing right? lol :wall: So I got some of those and replaced the violet goby with two more.
Now with two clown knives dropped in my lap I have to build my indoor pond.

I was a heroin addict for about 10 years (clean now :) ) and it was suggested to me that having a hobby helps, so I bought a fish aquarium to help keep me occupied in the evenings between all the meetings and groups. It worked! My fish hobby (and endless meetings) literally saved my life. been clean for 18 years!
a friend got into it and whenever i was at his house i spent most of the time watching his fish.
needless to say i bought a tank not long after.
i had goldfish when i was younger but i inherited it when my brother was sent down.

I kept various fish in my preteen years, in a 10g and 55g tank
Disaster struck one day when power went out and the big tinfoils asphyxiated. Killed my drive for the hobby.
6 years later my dad suggests putting some fish in the dormant 55g sitting out in the garage. I headed to petsmart and bought some cichlids. Instant readdiction. Then I sought out internet forums and became.... well i was already an internet loser then, but now im an internet loser with a fish problem.

My Dad got me into it. He used to keep bettas and black mollies. nothing big, and thought it was a good hobby to get into with his son. But now whenhe comes to visit me and sees my big tank packed with big fish, he says I am insane. LOL! Been keeping fish since I was 4.
Thanks Dad for getting me into this awesome hobby.

Had a cool rope fish with a butterfly fish they ate tankmates then the rope fish proceeded to eat the butterfly fish. Got back into it after my son had a cichlid tank. LOve those OScars! :)

the person who i have to thank for getting into this hobby which became my business for the past 15yrs is Martha Stewart............ I was 12yrs and saw one of her episodes on tv ........ where she dug a hole in the back yard and put down a black trash bag as a liner ........ a few rocks around it and BAMM............ you got a ghetto pond......... so off i was to the LFS.......... got some feeders............. they died........ got more feeders......... they died............ asked for a job........... declined............ came back a week later and the bosses lil sister hired me :)........... the rest is history............

Well, when I was little my dad finally caved after years of begging to get me some tetras. Eventually they died because of some mysterious snail invasion. They were so cool looking, and it calmed me to watch them. I have always loved fish and aquatic creatues. Though I admire betta fish the most, and my fiances support and encouragement has greatly led me to the hobby of fish keeping. I also admire betta breeder Faith Grangers accomplishments.

I got rid of my first set of Oscars because i wanted Piranhas so i got Piranhas and them realised i missed my Oscars so instead of swaping them again i bought another tank and got some more Oscars 1 albino tiger Oscar and 2 tiger Oscars and i just love them to death. I'm after another tank so i can get some FW Puffers they look great and have good personalitys.

My Friend Jesse. I went with him one day a few months ago to pick up some live rock from another lfs, and I saw a HUGE silver arowana in one of the display tanks. That fish is what got me started.
I've been running the reptile department in a pet store for about two years, but I never really had any interest in the fish. If I hadn't seen that arowana I'd probably still think fish were boring.

My mother showed me way in to the hobby.
I kept and bred newts. I had my first tank when I
was around 8 in 1979. Then back in to the hobby hard core
in 92. Bought my house in 97 and replaced all my old
tanks with new ones. remember the old 55g with the
thick glass and no top brace.

It was my classmate in high school, he was keeping some puffers then; he graduated to african butterfyfish, bichirs, knives, snakeheads and the like. My first fish was a 2'' oscar!
I always liked fish, when i was young a friend of the family has a piranha, i dont remember the size of it back then but all i remember was it eating live fish and really putting on a show. Ever since then i wanted one. I got into fish probably 12 years ago, i've had Piranhas, Snakeheads, JAck dempseys, oscars, red devils, pacus etc..
I currently still have Red Piranhas which are my fav fish.. I really like red snakeheads alot but getting one is next to impossible now since they've been banned.
anyways thats about it. .
Saw a 20 gallon tank on the curbside with a "free" sign on it. I was going to use it to add another reptile or arachnid to my classroom zoo. One of the other teachers suggested fish. I gave it a try and now I'm hooked. I have 2 fw tanks in my classroom and one at home.

I wanted a Super Nintendo and my dad didnt want me to "rot my mind" playing video games. He went and got a 30 gallon tank with 2 oscars so that I'd do something else with my time at 13 years old. I'm 23 now and I have a fish tank everywhere I go. My classroom has 2 tanks that we're gonna set up and a third on the way. The goal is to get my juvenile delinquents into a positive hobby instead of drug dealing, rape, murder, or stealing.

My Mom. I grew up in a house full of aquariums and she let me help. In return I could keep snakes, lizards, amphibians, guinea pigs, mice, tarantulas... Anything but rats. And I did (except rats o'course.) I stayed with fish anyway; been in the hobby about thirty years now (I took off for through my twenties to, you know, sew my seeds and stuff).

I guess it started when i was really young, something like 5-6 years old. My parents had a 30 gallon tank with some barbs, danios, angelfish, some type of catfish. Then my little brother put some soap or bleach in there and killed them all. Then just this year, i picked it back up, and now ive got a 75 and 350 gallon tanks. :)

Getting a 5g with 2 feeder goldfish, kept them alive for three days, then, my sister, brother, and my dad bought a 20g with 3 goldfish.. man, I loved those goldfish.. and I was like 7-8 back then.. and I also got my sister and mom into the hobby... My sister had bought mickey mouse platies that were sold as Mickey Mouse Goldfish, and she kept the tank unheated, and they still thrived. My mom bought a 75g tank, and had bought 2 paradise fish, 3 tiger barbs, 1 common pleco, 2 spotted rafael catfish, 2 Oscars, and 2 red tailed sharks... the catfish moved to the 20g once I had it heated and decided to stop with goldfish.

My interest in fish first started when I was in first or second grade , I heard my cousin talking about a " fighting fish" and to a little kid the idea of fish fighting blew my mind! I was never allowed anything other then a betta bowl until I was about 18 and just decided to start buying aquariums for myself, it was at this time that I met my best pal and "fish mentor " Ben, after this meeting occured my interest in fish soon became an obsession! Thanks BEN!!!!
