Has anyone bought fish online and if so was it a bad decision. It seems like the fish stores buy the same fish everytime and i would enjoy getting one i've never had before.

I bought fish on Aquabid twice. One was an African Butterfly that arrived looking absolutely healthy and ffrisky but would not eat for days and died suddenly. Never had luck with that species anyway. The second time was 6 CA cichlids. The guy sent 9, and they are all active and growing. Would do it again if right fish, right price, and reputable dealer.

never bought fish online. shipping costs too much. if that doesnt bother you go for it because online has better selections. only you cant see the fish before u buy so never go by the pics.

I bought over 75 aquariums and more than 2,000 fish through internet sales. There isn't a pet shop within 2 1/2 hours of where I live and the one's that are 2 1/2 hours one-way driving distance cater to the bread & butter fish keepers. If it weren't for internet sales, all my tanks would contain MS natives instead of the oddballs I prefer.

I had great luck online. Depending on what your looking for or how much you want to spend you can find free overnight shipping.

Just be cautious when buying through aquabid. I've been burned a couple of times, but for the most part it's been a good experience. I have hundreds of fish and all but a handful were bought on line. If you buy in large quantity, or rare/expensive fish, then the shipping costs aren't much of an issue.

I've had no problems with buying fish on line. Thats where i got my peacock bass, Just make sure to get next day shpping, and make sure they have a DOA gaurantee, cause my first pbass died in the mail, so they sent me new ones for no charge.

Also i've ordered fish of www.petsolutions.com and they came in real healthy!!!

I have most my fish online bc i am stationed out in the desert. Some good sites are pet solutions, that fish place and aquariumfish.net. they got your basic fish. Every once in a while they get some cool stuff in. But shiping can be a u know what when you buy

the problem i have is ordering from the States cause the shipping charges are large and then I have to pay for a fish and game permit.

Why aquabid and ebay when we have our own sellers here right in the buy and sell forum ? These guys deliver the goods at a lower price than retail and if you can find them there.

it all depends on how sensitive the fish you want to ship are and how long it will take. i have bought fish from Jeff Rapps at Tangled up in Cichlids and have had no problems ever and thats from jersey to San Diego. i just got a shipment in yesterday that got sent out thursday night. the package got stuck in Louisville Ky and it took me 48hrs to get the fish. all 8 of the fish i ordered came in looking tired and cold but otherwise healthy. as long as you are getting fish from a reputable person with proper packing technique then you shouldnt have a problem

A freind of mine and I decided to buy from Aquriumfish.net, we ordered 10 puffers and a couple of plecos. They were dead within a week. I was pretty pissed about this and swore to never order fish online again. I really wanted Red Belly Piranhas and I can't get them where I live, so I researched and gave it another shot. Rodgersaquatics.com was wonderful, I got all 10 RBP healthy. It has now been about 4 months and they are all 4 to 5
inches and look beautiful. I would think that a large site like Aquariumfish.net would be more reliable and safe to order from then a small one man buisness, I was wrong.
I hope anybody looking for oddball South American fish will check him out. Good Guy Great Customer Service

I have not had good luck with them. I had an order of plecos come in with only one survivor out of 12. Also, they are not too good on their identifications. There are two plecos that have the same picture...
