First, you take a 100,000 year old bog. Then, add some cypress or poplar wood to it. Keep covered with slow-flowing water for 25 years or more. After 25 years, taste for seasoning, then serve.

you could presoak it or maybe mount it to a piece of slate or glass and bury the slate or glass

Weighing raw wood will result in a constant battle to remove leeched tannins from your tank. The water will be an amber color for months to years depending on the size of the wood piece.

I found a really nice piece of wood out in my desert and i chopped the $hit out of it. ill take some pix. Im not positive what type of wood it is but i got many small piceis and 2 Large pieces. I have some small pieces in a 7g tank with about 8gold fish. The first day i put it in the small tank it was cloudy and today it is just a bit cloudy but no color change in the water. I am boiling some pieces that wouldn't stay down and the water in the pot is brown. Im hopping it will sink it but if not ill put some rocks on it. Ill post pixs ASAP

You could boil it in a giant pot or leave it to soak in a barrel for a few months.

I have been using dried wood I find down at the local lakes for years with no problems. The trick is to boil the heck out of it. I usually boil it 7-8 times changing the water each time. The water should start to look clearer after each boil.

If need be, you can hack it in to smaller pieces to fit the pot you are using and then screw it back together. You can make some really interesting pieces this way.
