I just got these.. They are in a q tank for fot tonite.. Sorry for the really bad pics, tank is really old.. Will get some better pics up tom.. Can anyone give me an id on these guys if possible..

it looks like a Florida/spotted gar but with better pictures it will be easy to id the gars

yes, i agree with eric, Florida/spotted gars. great looking specimens, and congrats! good to see some gars making their way to India! (i'm a big fan of gars, and my parents are from India) --

Ill get the pics up tom.. I have to make place in the grow out tank for them... There r already about 18 snakeheads in the growout tank.. Any ideay how i can get these guys to about 8" fast..?

would be wary of the snakeheads with the gars, there may be some predation in either direction, or broken backs on the gars due to being spooked.

to grow them fastest, i would put the gars in a 10g (minimum) or preferable 20 gallon long tank, on their own.

bump the temperature up to 82F and do 50% water changes at least once a week, preferably every few days.

if they are taking non-live food, great, if not, get feeders that are safe (and definitely not goldfish)...keep their tank stocked with fishes so they can eat constantly. when they get to 8"+ you can get them onto non-live foods.

following this gets gars to a bigger size quite fast, depending on their current size, this can be accomplished within a month or less (most likely less). good luck!--

I don't really know too much about gars but i reckon that they are floridas.

They r about 3-4", I got them for 10$.. Do gars mix well ? I mean with other gars.. i have another gar about 14" very aggressive.. A glass banger.. nearly killed my 7" bichir.. Any reason for this sudden aggressiveness... Im worried if they would get along..

gar will do good with other gars if they are around the same size

UNLESS your other gar is an alligator. and i don't think that being a glass banger is good for the gar. could you elaborate on this?

Its a spotted gar.. I mean as soon as anyone comes infront of the tank, he comes infront of the glass and starts pushing himself against it and snapping here and there. If I move m hand on the other side he does the same thing. I open the roof and he'll jump out of the water to grab my hand, which happened only once or he would either snap near the surface of the water.

i've never heard anything like this..haha. sounds like your gar has an attitude problem. aside from this is he normal? eating normally, swimming normally? maybe you did something to provoke it...haha i don't know i think wait for a pro to give you better answers.

He's perfectly normal.. I dont even feed him live food.. and yet he is so aggressive..

I just tried giving him some feeders.. He just left it. I put my hand in he came straight for it.
