I see these beautifully decorated tanks. They are scaped like no other-Lots of driftwood, rocks, misc decor,etc,etc....
I would love to do something like this as well with all of my tanks-
So now the ? being is how in the world do you guys gravel, sand vac your tanks?
do you guys really move everything to do water changes and gravel vacs-Or does the decor stay in place and you just vac what ya can....

I'll just move my decorations back and forth. The plants (fake) I have in the tank are permanantly attached to the undergravel filter, so remembering where everything goes is a bit easier.
for bogwood or rocks it's usually buried in the gravel/sand, so there is none to vac beneath it, so it's not really a problem for me on that front.

In a planted tank, you don't need to gravel vac at all.

Thansk guys-
so the key really is wether or not i use sand/gravel is to make sure to clear the area and place my decor down then continue to scape around it-If I am understanding things right that is....
My tank is/will not be a planted tank-Just scaped with various rocks/driftwood/misc decor.....

I move everything around at every water change. I always set it up different than it was. This keeps the fish busy with new exploring to do every week. Sometimes it looks better, sometimes it looks worse. The trick is to take pics when it looks better.;)

I have found that regardless of what I do to my tank, I am never happy with it. And when I am, my fish rearrange it to their liking anyways.

Interesting-But what if one is a lazy bastard-
Would it be alright to just place stuff and scape the gravel around and gravel vac from there-
I dont know if I'm going to be into all that work multiple times weekly with over 40 tanks-LOL

I don't change mine alot. I have about 200 lbs of rock in my African tank. I vac around it, but I don't do alot. I let the plants do the work. Love those live plants.
