I have been fishing for most of my life, but for nothing too hard. The only time I can remember actually targeting something other than sun fish was when I went to North Carolina on a fishing trip (caught a 10 lb rainbow :)) but my skills have deteriorated since then. This weekend, a local 5 acre pond will be stocked with 1000 trout for a kids derby on Saturday. On Sunday I plan to go and fish for a little bit to get my feet wet for the summer (where I plan on taking on some more challenging tasks) and I was wondering if anyone has any tips to help me out. I have a lot of experience, but very little success, so I still feel like a noob.

Any advice appreciated!

My favorite rod and reel I have is my hank parker medium action spin rod. Its 7' and this thing can cast farther than anything else ive ever seen. Its overall a great rod for just about anything and its very strong. It just in general is a great rod and very smooth reel. It feels great in your hand too. My second favorite would have to be my abu garcia hank parker baitcaster. Also 7' and a very strong and powerful rod that you can catch a whole bunch of fish on. I saw it and I knew I needed to get it. So i did. This rod runs at the amazing price of about $100

I found that the water had indeed receeded somewhat, but still too high for any serious fishing yet, from the banks at least.

What really irked me was laying up high on the banks of one particular hole, were numerous good sized large mouth bass, some measuring over 24 inches long, like they had been caught and then just thrown up on the banks to die. Ive heard of a guy catching a 3 lb comet in minnesota or michigan. I went to a neighbors pond with huge 3' and larger koi and I was trying to get fishing privelages. Its an older woman with a 1/2 acre koi, goldfish and native pond. She used to let a guy fish there but he got sent to jail for other reasons. Its been untouched for about 4 years now other than her feeding the koi pellets. If I get rights to fish there I will be bringing any comets back to my pond while leaving her prized koi untouched. Has anyone ever fished for any goldfish? Really curious how they can fight as I know they are decently strong fish

I had roughly 50 or so of these big red worms that say eisenia hortensis on the box and a misc box of large night crawlers. Id like to get these identified. Here are some pics of both of the types of worms. The larger ones are the ones I need to be identified.

I dont have a transom mount motor so I need get one. Anyways I resort to paddling the 220 acre lake and its very windy sometimes and you move a lot. I thought id share what I did for an anchor. I dont currently have it with me but ill be sharing pics when its with me. All I did for the anchor was have my stepdad pour some extra cement he had into a large coffee bin. We then inserted a large fish eye bolt and it weighs in at about 10 pounds and does the job. Thought id share this with you guys incase you were looking for any ideas on an anchor. I would be using my actual boat anchor but I lost it. So I resorted to this. Please share any small boat anchor ideas you have or have used and pics please.

In a day and a half of fishing we caught 60 fish with 38 being peacocks. Most were males since most are pairing up and starting to nest and females are non responsive to anything including live bait. here's some picks and i'll post some of the bigger cichlids later.
