I've been bit with the native bug recently and converted my 75 gallon tank in my office at work to a native sunfish tank. My two tanks at home have been tropical community planted tanks. I have a 120 in my living room and a 29 in my bedroom. We decided a few weeks ago we were going to be moving in July and I won't be able to set my tanks up right away so we decided that I was going to tear down my tanks and sell off my fish and plants that I currently have because I don't know how long it will be before I can set them back up again. So, today I've got someone coming to buy most of my plants and half of my fish. I'll probably have to downgrade my 120 to a 75 or 55 because of weight issues for my living room in the house we're moving into because I don't know how much the floor can support. I'm still wanting to do planted tanks with all native plants. I know that rules out most sunfish species but I'm wondering what setups would be good for a 29 gallon planted tank and a 75 gallon planted tank. Just looking for ideas on what to do with the tanks when I get them back up and running. I already have a sunfish tank so I'm looking for something different. I'll probably go with organic dirt topped with small grained gravel substrates. Not wanting to dose either except for maybe excel. Any suggestions on fish and plants?

I've had a largemouth bass in a 600 gallon pond for 5 years. I raised the largemouth from a fingerling and he is now around 4 pounds. He looks about that, I've never taken him out of the pond and weighed or measured him. About a year ago he nearly beat my koi to death, so I had to take it out. The pond is absolutely full of breeding populations of mosquito fish and bluespotted sunfish. I recently found a brown bullhead in the pond that I put in years ago and assumed it died. I haven't added any other fish near the size of my bass because I always thought he would kill the, like he tried to do with the koi. He hasn't done anything to the bullhead so I don't know. I'd love to put a longnosed gar in there but I'm not sure how the reaction will be. My pickerel also really needs an upgrade as he is approaching 11 inches in a 60 gallon long. I'd like to move him in there but I don't know if my bass will attack him. I'm also worried he may be able to eat the pickerel.

I was going to build a heated pond, but I'm realizing that it will just be too hard and too costly to accomplish what I want.I also realized that most of my stock can be replaced with fish in my backyard. So I'm turning it into a natives pond!

It's 8' by 6' and 3 feet deep. It's 800 gallons the way I have the terraces laid out. I'll list what I wanted and what I want to replace with.

RTC- Flathead Catfish
Peacock bass- Any kind of native bass
Arowana- Pike, gar,?

Also could I add some sunfish to the mix as well? I like the look of long ears.

Any way I could get a real monster like a paddlefish in there? If not ill get one of the genetic runts for my 75 if I can find one.

What other fish could I add? Thanks!
Yesterday I pick up a 20 gal tank that I haven't set up yet. My question is do you think I could catch a small perch 3-5 inches and put in my 10 gal tank with my two common gold fish until I get the 20 gal up and cycled?

I'm planning on getting a larger tank very soon just looking for a good deal on Craigslist what size should I shoot for? I would like to have 2 Perch or a perch and a sunfish/blue gill maybe a little rock bass.

Kind of a dream of mine to have natives been catching them my whole life.

Up here in Michigan if it madders.

So ive got my 75 gallon cycled and set up and i went hunting for some natives. I used chicken livers in a minnow trap in a local creek hoping for a small bullhead and i ended up with 3 green sunfish. two around 1.5" and one about 2.5". As a life long fisherman i know these fish to be quite aggressive (as are most sunfish) but these guys will hit a lure hard (probably more out of anger than hunger). Go easy on me because i am quite new to fish keeping but am i an idiot for trying to keep 3 green sunfish in a 75 gallon? I have a private pond in case things dont work out. Also i know they tend to be a bit smaller than bluegills. What is the bio load like on these guys? Will i be over stocked when they are full grown? Can i keep anything else with the 3? If i cant keep 3 and i get rid of 2 (id like to keep one at least) what else can i stock with him?
