No baffle sump. Will it work?

Anybody care to share how their sump is set up?
I'm kind of lost on the baffleless method.

I'm planing on having a filter sock, and then literally just dropping in pot scrubbers or ceramic media. Then water will flow into a pothos basket.
Is that correct? Just dropping in the bio media?

Bio media (lava rock and ceramic rings) are held in by eggcrate.

IM just gonna copy and paste what I said in this other thread lol.

I have a 180 & I used a 75-100 gallon like outdoor pond thing I got for free. I just loaded it with like 100 something pot scrubbers, Pond Matrix & a few large rocks. Also have a heater in there with a couple circulation pumps. Totally open no dividers or anything. Works great. I love that I went sump because its literally a totally open concept. You can do anything you want as long as its practical obviously Have fun with it :)

If I wanted to cut acrylic baffles out of an acrylic sump, what would be the best way to go about it? Hack saw? This tank is in use so it couldn't be anything crazy chemical-wise.

This might solve my problem of hard to reach, awkwardly placed filter socks.

A hacksaw wouldn't let you cut any deeper than about 4". I would use an electric cutoff tool. If I remember right harbor freight has some Chinese ones on sale for under $20. Could also do it with a dremel tool with cutoff wheel.
