In my opinion try to sell it as long it is small.
When they are big its very hard to find a new home.
You can not count on public aquariums.
Get a nice ray that you can handle in your tank.
When you are ready to build a pond in three-four years or upgrade your tank , fine.

So...how long do i have ? I mentioned I'm going to build a pond for sure but I'm not going to put a six inch ray with a 4 foot catfish so i just want to know how long i have

Ok.
i would say for the ray it would be better when you have a pond in 3-4 years.
Maybe the ray will survive even 5 or 6 years in your tank.
But is it a good life ?
Also it depends on the individual animal , genetics , feeding, temperature to reach his full potencial.
I never had a normal motoro in my tank so maybe some motoro keepers will tell their experience.

I have been told that it is a hybrid and doesn't get too big...I know how stores trick people but with rays a species i never kept i cant really tell from researching honestly if it is a hybrid or motoro
